As for battery life, I think that may be a legit concern. I really have no idea how long it will last. I think Apple is saying 5 hours talk or video time, 16 hours audio playback. Sounds like it should be able to last through a typical day of a couple hours of music, maybe an hour of talking, etc.
I plan on using the web a lot on it...

I'm thinking Wi-Fi is going to kill the battery

EDIT: I'm also not happy about not being able to use blue tooth to sync my ical on my macbook pro. i cant believe thats not a feature.

Is it Wi-fi or is it using the cingular data network? I'm not sure.

Yeah can't believe they left out iCal. Seems like it would have been a simple addition, considering ipods already can sync with it.

They have iCal. You just have to hook it up to sync with it. I want bluetooth to do that for me!

        As for the wi fi...

The answer is it runs off both, but will automatically switch to WiFi networks when in range, because you can obviously get better speeds off WiFi than the EDGE network.

and WiFi is notorious for draining battery.

Gotcha. I wonder if you'll be able to turn wifi off?

Ack. I heard it only has 5 hours battery life for the phone but 16 for audio.

I believe that is 5 hours of 'talk time'

Compared to my current phone (RAZR: 3 hours of talk time), thats an improvement.

EDIT: Here is battery info on the latest Blackberry

iPhone specs that have been posted
                    Talk Time: 5 hours
                    Music Playback: 16 hours

I've been around the net reading reactions to the iphone and a lot of people seem like they'll pass on it.

Isn't it missing features that are standard with other phones of its type? Most people see it as a waste of money.

the biggest gripe is that it lacks 3G support.

But Steve Jobs believes that WiFi is the future, and thats much better than 3G anyway....

He is banking that free WiFi will be available in a lot of areas very very soon.

As far as missing features, I am not sure what you are talking about. It has a lot of things that most phones dont, and next week at WWDC, Apple is expected to release a SDK to allow any developer to create applications for it.

If I had a choice between 3g and wifi, I would choose 3g as of now.

3G is definitely more wide spread as of right now.

Like I said it appears Jobs is banking on the fact that WiFi will be available sooner rather than later in a lot of areas.

If WiFi does become widespread, its a good call.

However, if it doesnt, expect iPhone 2.0 or 3.0 to bump it up to 3G, which obviously hurts those early adaptors.
