I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not. Does it really run ok? Cuz i read online that it runs super slow on a 3Gs.

It is SUPER slow on my 3GS phone. In fact, I may revert to a backup and go back to the previous iOS because of how slow it is.

I bit the bullet. I'm missing a ringtone, for whatever reason I'm missing apps also. How do I change the vibration pattern?

I feel like such a tool for doing this, but I'm going to go get in line early at my local AT&T store tomorrow to get one of these. I called them today and asked if they had any idea how many people would be lining up for this thing or if they had a recommendation about how early I need to get there, and she said 3-4 hours before should be safe. So, I will see 4:00 AM for the first time in a loooong time.

I drove past an AT&T and Best Buy stores this morning on the way to work and AT&T must of had 20+ people waiting outside. Hopefully I can get one in a few weeks as they should be readily available then.

Drove by a Sprint on my way home from the gym and there was like 5 people waiting outside in the pouring rain.

I am all set for a couple months... it made the 3Gs so much better... I am content until supplies are more readily available.

Hoping to get my stupid PC back up and running tonight so I can get my phone updated. Any other way to update an iPhone without itunes or it has to be through there?

Hopefully this isn't a placebo affect for the 3GS and truly makes it run better and increases battery life a bit.

It's about time Apple made those changes.

Android and iOS are becoming more similar with every update, now it's just about hardware.

It really isn't. People keep insisting it is but it really isn't.

You can get a better experience out of lesser hardware with the proper software. It's why *nix geeks are so high on their choice of OS. You can throw Linux on just about any piece of junk and it will fly.

For what you're doing on a mobile phone, the internals out there are more than capable on many devices.

I liken it to buying a car b/c it has more HP. Doesn't mean anything if a secondary car has less horses but more torque, stiffer suspension, better fuel management and lighter.

Ok - maybe that's a bad example since someone will bring up that some of that is hardware :P

I noticed a change right away... especially performance, and definitely battery today at the gym. Hour of music listening and some Facebook checking randomly and it went down 8% from 100 to 92% battery. It would have been way worse before.

There is a benchmark here that boosted the 3Gs from the bottom, to middle of the pack of all the "top phones" out for performance...

Agreed. And it definitely boosted the "lesser hardware" 3Gs to near iPhone4 level of performance for standard OS use, etc.

Buys me a couple more months.

Got ya. I don't agree about the software, but that's an entirely different discussion. To pigeon-hole the argument, you can do what you need to on each phone ecosystem... it's just a matter of how well you can do it and while you can make an argument for the discussion it's ultimately going to be subjective.

Same for me. The whole checked and unchecked songs things does nothing for me.

I thought you could check songs in your library, hit sync and it sync up.

For me I go to the phone screen in Itunes, go to music tab, then it gives me a list of every artist. I then select which artist, but I can't choose individual songs. It does break it down to albums. I have also corrected artist and titles in iTunes and it won't sync over to my phone.

Do you have the button checked on the iPhone summary screen that says only sync check marked songs?

I got it! I have so much to learn... even most of the stuff in iOS4 is new to me since it didn't apply to the 3G model.

There ended up being about 20 people lined up by the time they opened the doors. I was #5. The workers were extremely nice and helpful, getting me set up very quickly.

Now I'm downloading the new version of iTunes, syncing my old phone, and setting up the new one. I can't believe how much faster the 4S is than my old phone. The letters actually show up right when you press them on the keyboard, and not 45 seconds later!
