Re: J.J. Abrams Trailer - "Cloverfield"
SpoilerWell, if you want to you could explain it. Will Smith was a scientist working on a cure for the Vampire stuff. So we had some basic knowledge of what went down and why it is happening. Maybe for Cloverfield 2: Clove Harder, we can get the perspective from someone like a news reporter or a soldier who is strapped with a camera on his head. That is only if you are sticking with the mock-documentary style.
If you go into standard style you could follow around one of the Generals that are calling the shots and have him get constant updates on the monster. Although, that could get very ham fisted and awkward.
SpoilerThey would have died sooner!Comment

As far as the camera action, some of it was bad, not because it was a handi-cam but some blurred out sequences or panning around the room for no reason wasn't ... well it was a bit over jerky.Comment

First off im not complaining because i enjoyed the movie, but come on man you know good and well some of it didnt make sense.

However, I would have adored another good 20 minutes of movie. No, not necessarily past the end (I thought the end was great, BTW), but just in the middle.
And to anybody that's seen Psycho (who hasn't?), I haven't ever once heard anybody complain about the main character dying midway through the movie. Similarly, the "abrupt" ending (which actually wasn't so abrupt if you paid attention to some of the stuff before it) in Cloverfield was pretty good.
Maybe its some bias I have for this movie... but I just thought it was awesome. I know you're not complaining, I'm just trying to give reason for what makes those parts good.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: J.J. Abrams Trailer - "Cloverfield"
SpoilerThey would've made it. That part just got his brother killed. He never told his mom it was because he wanted to stay on the bridge when the cops and military specifically told them to keep moving.
The rest is him weirding out and taking hsi friends back for the girl when he again should've followed the militaryComment

Re: J.J. Abrams Trailer - "Cloverfield"
I just think this movie had an incredibly realistic tone from the hand-held camera's sake, and I have zero complaints about it. To be honest, I couldn't care less if we learn more about the monster. In a way, I think it might be worse. It's like learning more about Jigsaw... not only does it not matter, but it starts to make him look like the good guy. It's just something that I really don't care about.

except for the fact that there is no coincidence of people from all around complaining of vertigo.
sure it gave it a realistic feel, but at some point they should've stedi-cammed the movie.Comment

I didn't have any problem with the camera work either. My friend said he felt nauseas though.

Re: J.J. Abrams Trailer - "Cloverfield"
I thought it was obvious that this whole movie was supposed to be from one camera. If it weren't, it would have lost a lot of luster (at least, in my eyes). At first I heard that the first scene was supposed to be of people recovering the SD card and watching it from there, which I would have totally despised. I'm happy it was done the way it was.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: J.J. Abrams Trailer - "Cloverfield"
I didn't either, but for movie screen standards our theater sucks. It is never proportioned right so it doesn't fill up the entire screen which might of helped. I didn't think it was that big of a deal anywaysComment

Re: J.J. Abrams Trailer - "Cloverfield"
For most of the movie they are running and wondering about what's coming at them. No one would be able to hold the camera steady during a situation like that.Last edited by jmood88; 01-19-2008, 11:26 PM.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

jmood88, I had a hard time understanding how your reply was in response to that post of mine. Was there some sort of agreement/disagreement in there?
