    Dan Patrick Leaves ESPN

Well....ESPN is a sinking ship of mediocrity and stupidity but we all knew that already

Dan Patrick just announced in the 2nd hour of his show that he's leaving ESPN. Apparently he's looking forward to being a free agent. (read: He's looking for a nationally syndicated show that pays mega bucks) I haven't had that much exposure to Patrick but from what i've seen and heard he's been one of the very few solid journalistic guys in the ESPN family. Sure he has a tendency to look for the "big scoop" at times but for the most part he has a level head compared to the jokers on the radio and tv for the network.

Ehh, ESPN is a joke yes, but Patrick isn't anything special.

He offers no real insight in ANY sport.. but he used to be a great personality. He's Keith Olberman II.

I'm not too surprised, as he really doesn't have anything else to do there. I'd like to hear his comments, or better yet, hear what many ESPN vets would have to say about the direction of the company.

I actually enjoy listening to the guy, especially when he has Reggie Miller on, for some reason they seem to play off of each other perfectly, when Olberman is on its pretty good as well.

At least he's not a huge blowhard like Colin Cowherd, but he wasn't as good as Kornheiser.

Too bad he's leaving... heard a rumor that he may be going to "The Price is Right" though

The biggest downside to this is that ESPN will inevitably fill his spot with yet another loudmouth who enjoys hearing himself talk a little too much.

I never enjoyed any of his work, especially his radio show. I felt like he came across as extremely arrogant and judgemental of the very athletes that keep him employed. I know he isn't alone in that regard, but he has become increasingly more difficult to listen to.

I agree. I've always thought that he was an arrogant jerk. I'm glad he is gone.

Patrick leaving ESPN/Disney = No Patrick on NBA Games

I find Patrick to be extremely smug so I'm not disappointed he's leaving. The Dan Patrick show wasn't good.

I find it hard to believe he will leave ESPN without having some sort of safety net. He's already turned down the Price Is Rights job. And you have to figure when he gets a new job, he's probably going to have to move his family to another part of the Country.

I wonder who will take over his timeslot. Colin Cowherd could take over. I thought about Jim Rome but he just signed a long term contract last season.

IMO the 2 best national radio sports hosts are Colin Cowherd and Jim Rome. Both shows are extremely entertaining.

I too never really got into his radio show, and sadly I actually prefer Colin Cowherd. Patrick is solid and dependable, but in terms of sports knowledge I really question if he should have a show on the world wide leader in sports. I guess at the end of the day this like a former superstar retiring, sure it sucks to lose the name, but ESPN could actually upgrade the talent if they do it right.

I am disappointed that he is leaving. I love his radio show, especially with Olbermann.

Unfortunately, he will probably be replaced by another pompous jackass like Cowherd, because that is apparently what people want today.

BTW, I never found Patrick to be any more arrogant than most of the jackass athletes that he interviewed. He was always smarter than them and he knew it.

And both are reactionary pricks who blowhard, yet never stand behind a statement when called on it. Nice. If those two are the benchmarks for sports-talk radio, it is time for me to tune out, because I want nothing more than for both of them to never speak again.

I'm not all that big on Patrick, so I don't care too much...He's always seemed kinda smarmy to me, I don't care about him on his radio show I just care if he has a cool guest. He's definitely better than Cowherd and the other crap guys they have, but that's not saying much.

Makes sense that he'd leave eventually, I doubt everyone wants to be at ESPN all their lives, people need new challenges and experiences (Olbermann, Kilborn, etc)
