Pretty interesting interview with Damon Lindelof, one of the producers. Doesn't have any spoilers, more about the writing process and how they view criticism.Listen to some of my covers:

Re: ****Official LOST Season 4 Discussion (Contains Spoilers)**
I want to preface this post by saying that I really like Lost. Next to 'Heroes' it's probably my favourite show on TV.
However, are we going to be introduced to a new mysterious 'group' every single season? First it's the others, then Dharma, then the Tail survivors and now this new group.
Next year I'm expecting the CIA or some very secret government agency to get involved. By the end we'll have the Skulls, Makaveli and the Stone Cutters all trying to get on the island.
And are my eyes deceiving me or is Hurley getting fatter?Comment

Re: ****Official LOST Season 4 Discussion (Contains Spoilers)**
It's way too early for this, but here's my guess for the remaining 3 of the Oceanic 6.
4. Sun. She has to get off the island and knows this. She won't survive the childbirth. Once Jin knows this, if he doesn't already, he'll make sure she's gone.
5. Locke. I think Locke is the suicide. Once he's off the island he's back in his wheelchair and can't take it. Also, Locke is not popular with Jack or Kate, and neither of them seem friendly with whoever's funeral Jack stopped by. According to the obituary Jack has, the first letter of the name starts with a J, which could make it a couple different characters. Namely John Locke, Julliet, James Sawyer, and Jin. I also can't think of anyone that would show for Locke's funeral. His ex is completely done with him due to his father issues.
6. Ben. For some reason I think he's the guy that Kate needs to get back to during her talk with Jack in the first FF episode. Ben could be holding her past against her, threatening to expose who she is if she doesn't stay with him. He could also be the only chance of her being with Sawyer again. Ben has dirt on everyone. Ben leaving the island is a huge stretch, but he knows the new people invading the island are there to supposively kill everyone, so it's either leave or be destroyed.
One of the reasons I think Jack so desperately wants to return to the island is not only to rescue the remaining Losties, but because one of them is his half sister. Upon finding out Claire's relationship to him, that's the kicker to return.Comment

Now about mid-season 3, they got on with their new revised plot and its starting to gel again, but its probably only a matter of time before Jacob and his love shack just disappear and we're chasing around finding out about the group of "freighters" or whatever we're going to call the new group of rescuers/villains.
Oh and Hurley might be getting fatter, but at least they explained that. He was guzzling ranch sauce.
The other thing I have a question about. OK, the Dharma initiative was still making those airdrops so Hurley would have ranch sauce to guzzle. They have blown up a few of the outposts and communication has probably stopped. So wouldn't whoever was dropping the food off want to investigate as to what happened? Is that who is on the freighter?
If not, why hasn't the Dharma initiative come back to see what the heck has happened?Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

Here's another thought I just had. Kate cannot be going by her true name if she is one of the Oceanic 6. Whether you survive a plane crash or not, if you're a wanted felon, you're screwed once being rescued. So she's either going by a name of someone else on the flight, or she's managed to avoid being known as a survivor, which would put the Oceanic 6 as being 4 names we don't know.Comment

Re: ****Official LOST Season 4 Discussion (Contains Spoilers)**
I agree with your statements. I think they introduce a new group so you get focused on them and then they can smokescreen their way out of having to explain all the plot lines they have left unfinished and questions left unanswered. The fact that the numbers mean nothing is insulting. They led us down the path to believe that there was a dvine numeric connection between everything on the show....."Silly viewers, those numbers are trivial....the real story lies with the people in the tail section.....Silly viewers...its about the Dharma initiative, the 'tailies' really have nothing to do with the plot, why do you keep focusing on Echo's stick and Libby's relationship with Hurley...."

Those are all excellent questions. My wife and I were commenting last night how they seemed to have brushed aside the numbers like they're completely insignificant. I'm also kind of ticked that they haven't mentioned them in several episodes. Afterall, it's the reason for so many of them being there and it's also the reason that Hurley is rich. I really, really hope the writers haven't simply dusted this under the rug hoping the viewers forget all about it.
I'm far too invested to stop watching at this point, and most episodes are still great. But I hope they start answering some of mysteries they started in season 1.
P.S. Add Jack to my list of annoying characters. Why does he deliver every line like he's out of breath. Would Sawyer finally just beat the crap out of him? That would entertain me greatly.Comment

And why did Hurely lie about not knowing Ana Lucia? Is it just that he didn't want the hassle or are the Oceanic 6 hiding what happened on the island?
Personally, I would never admit to knowing that lazy-eyed drunk. Only Hurley is more repulsive than her.Comment

"He was guzzling ranch sauce." Hahahaha!

Have you ever seen the movie "We are Marshall"? Good old Jack plays the exact freaking character in that movie. He has the acting range of a pipe cleaner. And if I recall Jack was already on your list of most annoying characters. He's been annoying since season 1. But last season when Kate went chirping to him like a song bird when he was on the beach with Julia(Another annoying character with that stupid smile on her face no matter the situation). And Jack says, "Why didn't anyone tell me this?" Like he's the president of the island. One other thing that bothers me. In ther flash forwards, Jack is all drunk and all hopped up on Oxycodin grabbing patients charts and falling down and the people at the hospital tell him to go home. How do they suppose he's getting home? They are basically letting this fool drive around until he finds another bridge and mames some more people.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

The numbers are officially brushed aside, like I said its insulting, but the writers have claimed they have no significance.

If that's true, I'm very disappointed. What's to stop them from dusting other important things under the rug as well? Like the monster, or Locke's ability to walk, or all the dead people that are scene walking the jungles?
That's crap man.Comment

I used to try to figure this show out, understand the connection between numbers, dig into the connections between the people, but in the end, I don't think the writers intend this to be a puzzle to solve. I think they will just keep us lost by starting new story lines and answer only what they want to answer. And entertain us for an hour a week. I mean we only have 7 more weeks until another year off, how much will they answer? Who else will get drunk drivings and get kicked off the show? What writers will return from the strike? These questions are more pertinant to the story line than anything else.Last edited by fistofrage; 02-01-2008, 03:47 PM.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

LOL, we've seen polar bears on a tropical island, magical smoke monsters, cripples who can now walk again, people surviving gunshot wounds, invisible talking people, mysterious underground bunkers, gigantic four-toed statues, etc., etc. and THAT'S what you find far fetched?!?"You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier

Well we were all silly to read anything into these numbers. I'll think you'll find that the Island is magic may be the underlying answer to alot of these questions. There's your answer, nothing more, nothing less. I liked ths show better when I thought it was all in Hurley's head or when I thought they were dead and had to find closure before moving on. I think we'll all be disappointed if we want everything answered on this show. Its just an hour of entertainment for me a week.

But I think you're right in that there really is no rhyme or reason to anything that's going on. Everyone who watches the show regularly has thought of theories or tried to figure out mysteries, but none of them are close to being right. It's whatever mood the writers happen to be in that particular week.
In the end, I think the answer will be that the island is magic and that everyone in life is "Lost". But this island was the one spot on earth where things were simple and if you gave the island absolute blind faith it was a true utopia. A utopia that will ultimately be destroyed because man is always seeking out conflict wherever he can find it - even in paradise.Comment
