Re: I Am Legend
The decision to make the zombies CGI was already explained, they were supposed to have elevated levels of adrenaline and the actors wouldn't have been able to show that without hyperventilating. The zombie that was locked in the glass cage was the alpha zombie's mate, which is why he felt for her. As far as the animals, the deer and lions just must've been immune. The dogs were only affected by being bitten directly so it wouldn't be a surprise for other animals to be affected differently.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Lol, I'm sure this concept wasn't first revolutionized by 28 days later, plus this movie was better than 28 days later. Also as someone pointed out, the book that I Am Legend was based on came out way before 28 Days Later.MLB: New York Yankees

Re: I Am Legend
SpoilerThe reason why the Vampire didn't kill him @ the end was becasue he gave him back the girl. The reason why they went after Will Smith in the 1st place is because they never wanted to be CURED. They had come to terms with themselves about what had happen to them. So much that they would have rather lived as INFECTED than either die being an experiment for the CURE or be CURED @ allComment

Re: I Am Legend
Didn't Will mention in one of logs midway thru the movie that these zombies have lost all traces of a personalty and feelings or something to that effect so why all of a sudden one of them has a hard on for one of the females makes little sense. It was a cheap plot device and lame attempt to all of a sudden humanize the ending . Using CGI for the monsters can be used for fast action sequences from a distance but for close ups you could have easily used human actors even with the adrenaline problem. You could have used CGI just for the breathing effects. If they can CGI a six pack on Nicholas Cage as Johnny Blaze then that can be easily done. It's lazy filmaking and the industry's over reliance on CGI because it's less trouble to do is the biggest problem in the industry.
And the CGI thing has already been discussed plenty. It would've been dumb for them to switch back and forth between real actors and CGI throughout the movie. You have to stick with one or the other, and since real actors for every scene was not physically possible, they chose the CGI route.Comment

Re: I Am Legend
I saw Omega Man recently and boy was the story different. This version was full of funny one liners. Similar stories but very different infected people. I like the Will Smith version better, but Omega Man will make you laugh at loud at times because of Charlton Heston's great acting.

Re: I Am Legend
One more thing about the CGI was the fact that they shot the whole movie with real actors, and after they shot realized that it wasn't physically possible to get them to look like they wanted, and instead of going and re-shooting the way they would have shot if they were doing CGI from the beginning, the artists actually "painted" over every single human actor by hand.Comment

Also, your opinion on the CGI is just that, an opinion. If they had gone with real actors for the zombies, it is assured that there would be people out there that complained about how the makeup was lame or that you didn't get a sense of enough fear from them. They went with CGI because it would give them more possibilities in the action scenes, not because they were being lazy. It was a directorial choice, whether you think it was the wrong one has nothing to do with his thought process when he chose it.
I'm not gonna argue that this was an alltime great movie but you seem to be misinterpreting some aspects of the movie.MLB: New York Yankees

Re: I Am Legend
Saw this movie this weekend and wow...fantastic. Up until the last 45 minutes the movie was one of my all time favs...wasn't a big fan of the ending (not the way it ended, but the way it felt rushed). The woman and child showing up did nothing for me...I really believe the only reason the boy is there is so they could show the scene where he walks in the kitchen and see's his wife and daughter.
Other than that...this movie was amazing. The scene in the bank/apartment building/warehouse was tremendous and Will Smith continues to be one of my fav actors of all time (I can't think of anything he has done I didn't like him in).
If you haven't seen this one yet...check it out."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." - Rogers HornsbyComment

Re: I Am Legend
I have a question for you guys in the know or if you read the book. The book is also called I Am Legend. The title fits with the movie because of Bob Marley's able, Legend, and how Robert Neville tries to brighten up the world. Since Bob Marley's album hadn't been released when the book was written how do they explain the title in the novel? The main character's name is still Neville right?
I'm thinking about the movie more after I watched it last night and I'm not as sour as I was. I haven't sweetened but I'm starting to desour. The zombies/vampires just didn't do it for me.Comment

Having seen this film twice, once at the theater and once at home, I think the “Alternative Version” is what Warner should have gone with in the theatrical release. It is just a much more satisfying ending if you ask my opinion. Granted, neither ending match the other two films or even the book. Not only does the alternative version give you a better understanding as to why the “Dark Seekers” were after Neville, but it gives you a much more complete feeling at the end. I have posted my thoughts on my blog.Comment
