They screwed up, it is simple as that. They did not think it through.

I'll accept it as vinegar, radioactive symbol or otherwise.

Yeah it was vinegar.

I just got done watching this movie about 20 minutes ago on BR. It's one of the best movies I've seen in a while. Very good imo.

The woman and her son were virtually useless characters. Their only purpose was getting the cure to the Vermont town, and getting Neville back to his house. The son was an absolute waste of a character.

I think moreso they just weren't strongly enough developed and/or just not good enough actors, especially her. But clearly she was an injection of hope at a time when Neville had been diminished of all hope. Her butterfly tattoo on her neck (along with, of course, the butterfly cracking pattern on the glass at one juncture) was the "spiritual" confirmation of his purpose, to finally get away from ground zero and finally get rid of his illusions that he could "fix it".

Just watched this movie tonight and I thought it was pretty good actually. Quick question for those who have watched both versions, is the only difference between the theatrical version and the alternate version, the ending? I watched the alternate version because of things I heard here but figured I could watch the other version if there were major differences outside of the ending of course.

I think you some of you guys are over analyzing how Neville is interpreting how the vampires have "deteriorated". I believe it's just a simple mistake.

When he captures the female vampire, the alpha male comes out of the warehouse a little and begins to get "burned". He did this to try and get to his female...much like you or I would start to go into a house fire to save a loved one......but once you start to get burned, you're "fight or flight" instinct takes over and you simply are forced to retreat. Neville saw this and not realizing that this alpha could "have a female"(he simply didn't think this way) saw it as the alpha going even further just to get to HIM. He relayed that into thinking they were losing all emotion, when like someone else alluded to, the creature is actually showing more emotion. I know this has kind of been stated before...but some guys are just getting too deep IMO.

...and yes vinegar...I knew immediately because it's one of my wifes favorite cleaning products(she's very much into being "green" )...and the smell could EASILY drive away vampires!....I think the biohazard sticker was just his little joke against the vampires..
