The ending was the only thing I think made this movie suffer from being excellent and that alternate ending makes it work.

I guess I can understand why they wanted Neville to sacrifice himself but in the end it made no sense considering his options. To just give it up or not hide with the woman and the kid. Just seemed like a wasted effort.

At least here in this new ending he tries something. He tries to push his experiment and realizes (and also shows the audience) that these things are in fact more intelligent and emotional than we think. They aren't just bloodsucking mindless freaks.

We said that when it was still in the theater...? Why would you be unsure? We had the video way back then.

As for the new ending... fantastic. I actually would have preferred that ending in the theater... with this theater ending as an alternate.

On another site, they said that on of the Darkseekers set the trap for Neville, copying the one he used on that AlphaFemale. They used Fred as the bait. I just assumed it was one that he set himself, but forgot all about it as he was in a decaying mental state.

The alternate ending is actually pretty much what I was expecting to happen when I first saw the movie. They alluded it to it earlier in the movie when the head vampire guy stepped out into the sun after the chick was captured, and Will Smith mentioned how that was abnormal behavior.

I liked the original ending much better. He was succesful with the antivirus, gave it to the chick, and then went out like a hero taking out those bastards. ill ending, i like when movies are not afraid for the main character to go out like that. The alternate ending was corny to me.

I liked the original ending a lot better. I just watched the movie this weekend for the first time, I enjoyed it a lot. Much more than I had anticipated.

The the alternate ending was much better. Instead of going with the overused classic "hero" vs. "villians" the alternate ending leaves us with no true villians...which for me, was more "believable".

The movie on a whole was pretty disappointing to me. It started out effectively creepy the 1st half but lost all of that with the fake CGI monsters rendering it another shallow Hollywood effort made just for the CGI effects. 28 days later did it right using actual actors to portray the zombies which made them much more menacing, in this movie they were way too transparent and not scary at all.

The alternate ending was beyond stupid to me. How does the main Zombie guy all of a sudden feel for the captured one when moments before he takes out about 3 or 4 of them when he comes downstairs. Guess he didn't like them very much. Not to mention I don't care what kind of zombie you are, taking those shots to the head when he broke the window would crush your skull unless I wasn't made aware that the virus gives you the skull of Superman.

One more plot point. wouldn't the deer have been affected a long time before since the zombies would have fed on them at night, or at least the dogs would of. Same goes for the lions who I assumed came from the zoo unless they swam over from the Kalahari.
