Remember when one of the mutants stuck his mug out of the warehouse window into the sunlight and nothing happened to him? To me that was an indication of some type of transformation (evolution) that might be occuring with these things.

Although the movie didn't have enough time to explain it, I rationalized that for if "iffy" stuff.

No, his skin did burn.... he just withstood it for that short time due to his anger for/at Neville.

Yeah, if I remember correctly you could hear the sizzle. I think he was really upset because that could have been his daughter or significant other in the past. That's just my guess though.

His head was burning, and novastar is right, they didnt do a very good job of explaining this movie and events that took place. That was my point with the questions... not that it couldnt be explained, but they didnt explain lots of things, and it left too many questions.

Him banging his head at the end had nothing to do with reasoning... the thing had a heightened sense of aggression that superseded everything else at times.

Also, it's not like we know Neville has a strong attachment to "Fred" but that whole scene is more on how he snaps knowing full and well it's a mannequin that can't move. Remember, we think we see the thing move. That was the director's way of showing just how mentally off he is at this point due to lack of social contact.

And he even said that the thing had better not be real, he didn't have a strong attachment to it.

You see, that's exactly what I thought was so great about the movie. They didn't baby and hand-hold the viewer through every single little detail.

There are a bunch of other questions people can raise:

Why didn't the dogs turn around and attack the other nightwalkers?

How did Sam not get attacked and killed but the deer did?

Why didn't he strap down the nightwalkers head when he was experimenting on them?

That's why I liked it... nothing was completely beyond the realm of belief. Everything had some sort of explanation that was plausible... they didn't tell you specifically what it was he was spraying on the steps of his home, but like we covered earlier you can put two and two together.

Because the dogs are smaller and the area where there was darkness/shadows was limited was my interpretation...sometimes it's the most obvious thing really

That is what the plot of the movie is for, to explain the things that are stated in the movie and/or the events that take place. With the mutant leader, we are left with a whole bunch of speculation. Again, if the dummy was on 42nd (midtown) street and the lair of the mutants is in the village (downtown), how on earth would the leader even know that the dummy would have any significance to Will? He would have literally have to watch Will, follow him, know that Will had some bond or recognition of the dummy, all while being unable to move in the daylight. It just happened. I guess the leader had placed a gps device on Wills jeep at night (just joking) but you get the point. There is nothing in the plot of the movie that would lead one to believe that the lead mutant could reason, other than him doing it. As a matter of fact we see at the end (when he is constantly banging his head against the glass that the thing can't reason, which is why Will had to ultimately decide to blow everything up) That is a plot hole.

Just because they emphasized "Fred" at some point doesn't mean that the dark seekers couldn't have taken ANY mannequin and put it somewhere. Will Smith probably knew a ton of the mannequins and would have recognized any number of them, in which case the director probably would have showed a scene with Will and that mannequin. Orrr they could have just been watching him out of one of the windows of the buildings or something. By no means a "plot hole" in my opinion. Also, the fact that the dark seekers didn't come out in the light tells me that they can reason to some extent, and they just copied the same trap that Will set.

Ok so the whole Fredy thing happened the next day, not the same day as the day he talked to fredy in the store. Which is good. Cause that would of been a huge plot hole.

Yeah, his skin did burn...................but it almost looked like he was resisting the heat a tad.

I thought that part was to show the actual "smartness" and "higher level thinking" of the mutants. To me it showed that he cared about the girl who was taken, and he was doing what he could to get her back.

But I thought the Movie was just one sad moment after another really sad moment, but I liked it.

There was an older couple sitting behind us, it was during the part when the 3 "demon dogs" attacked Will Smith and Sam. The older woman got so disgusted that they left.

The part where he is going down times square there is a real big billboard of batman with the superman logo on his chest. Was there anything to this or there just for ad placement?
