I can't find the links for monkeys setting traps but I'll look some more. I read about it somewhere but they have shown that they can use tools and trick termites among other things. Other animals do set traps though like spiders http://www.abc.net.au/science/news/stories/s1481189.htm

Pared. I hear what you are saying but I don't think it was intentional. I understand that 10% (or whatever the percent would have been) is a rational result of humans having different immune systems. But for such an important aspect of the movie to go unexplained to me does not make sense. There were approximately hundreds of seekers we were exposed to in the movie, they all were unable to do anything but rage out and eat, why was that one different? It is important because the actions of that, one, set the tone for the movie. From where I sit, the writer or director of the movie had to explain what was driving that one seeker we as the viewer don't know, if he was mad, why? What made that one even capable of being mad at Will. Again, I originally thought it was because he had some bond with the female seeker that Will caught, but that was'nt it. We understand the thought process and actions of the protagonist (Will) but we get no insight to the antagonist(the smart seeker). He was not trying to eat will, he was trying to kill him, that went outside of what was established. What was established was that the seekers only followed the sent of blood because that represented food. That one seeker seem to have a vendetta but we have no idea how or why.

The biggest stretch was setting the trap with the dummy. How in the hell, could a sub human do something remotely that deep(as far as the movie was concerned). That would be the equivalent of a monkey using my social security number to open a credit card account. You would have to show me why or how a monkey could accomplish something like that, something that requires deep psychological thought, especially in that movie. The movie does'nt even touch it, and to me that makes the whole plot disconnected or "holed" if you will. Will's acting was great but to me that whole thinking seeker, to rabid non thinking seeker, was totally off.

Now Pared, if it was intentional, then in my opinion it was'nt carried out very well. Some things you have to give the viewers and should not leave to viewer speculation, especially when it is an important driving force in the movie. The actions of that super seeker set all of the important parts of the movie into motion.

Ok, I see your point but we're watching a move based on the one man (or so we thought) left in this world.... who is to say there aren't other dark walkers out there that can act as this one male? You can't make that assumption. In this movie, based entirely in a small section of Manhattan, this one dark walker is reacting to what Neville did - trap the female. We don't know how he's captured others... we don't know if they've seen him... we don't know if they stay in groups or whatever.... but we do know that this one physically saw Neville lay a trap and learned from it, completely going against what Will thought they were capable of. That's what was so fascinating with this virus and what it does to the human body.

And I think you're looking too much into the dark walker using a mannequin... They used something that resembles Neville... a mannequin, knowing it would get his attention. For all we know, they could have set up Fred thinking Neville would think it's another dark walker and try and capture it... we don't know. That's what is so fascinating about the entire thing. I honestly think some of you are reading too into the fact that this thing chose "Fred." If anything, it's more about Will's reaction to it.

Just for the record, this is why I really enjoyed this movie. It leaves a lot open to interpretation. This allows you, the viewer, to figure things out yourself with imagination to an extent. You can't fully use reason in this movie... as we've never seen this scenario nor encountered these things.

What I am going to do is watch "The Last Man on Earth" starring Vincent Price. I taped it about 2 months ago on my time warner box. I had no Idea it was the first movie based on the I am Legend book(or whatever it was called). I have seen the Omega Man, starring Charlton Heston, so far out of the two (between I am legend and the Omega man) I like the Omega man better. I will check out the Last Man, sometime this week to see how it handles the story.

In the book they have their own culture with a somewhat secret service and normal human life. Hence the I am Legend title. I would of like them stick more to the book because in the book he is actually the last human alive. Everyone else are the vampirish creatures...hence I Am Legend. He is the last human alive and when he dies, he will be a legend, a myth in the culture of the "vampires"

You see, that's exactly what I thought was so great about the movie. They didn't baby and hand-hold the viewer through every single little detail.

There are a bunch of other questions people can raise:

That's why I liked it... nothing was completely beyond the realm of belief. Everything had some sort of explanation that was plausible... they didn't tell you specifically what it was he was spraying on the steps of his home, but like we covered earlier you can put two and two together.

To me that didn't matter-I thought the movie was boring. Not to be redundant, but the dog dying in Will's arms was gut-wrenching.
