    Re: The Wire-Season 5

Yeah, they were going to talk about the Mexican and Puerto Rican influx into Baltimore, but said that they lacked the expertise for it to be feasible for an entire season. Simon is notorious for taking authenticity to an almost ridiculous level, so it won't be happening if he isn't 100% behind it. It's too bad, but the series was originally supposed to end after Season 5 anyway, so this is the way it was supposed to be. The arc is complete with the media story and it can just end in the way that it was intended instead of tacking on another season worth of plots that probably can't live up to what we've had in 1-5.

His next work is supposedly in New Orleans with jazz musicians. Heard something about that a while back. Either way, that's really exciting, because I love jazz and know that Simon would do that show great justice.

I think the show will end with Marlo still running things or someone else just "replacing" him like the whole co-op killing him. Thus, sybolizing that the drug game or just crime in general is and will aways be an on-going problem no matter where you are or who you are.

I know you guys told me not to watch until I can see it all but I broke down and watched last night's episode. I can't wait to get Season 5 on dvd. It'll be the first one I've bought even though I've seen every episode of 1-4.

Hate it how they took out the "Stickup Kid" like that. Just didn't feel right. It ruined the episode for me because I kept thinking about it the rest of the show. I almost wanted him to get up and shake it off like all the other crazy stuff that happened to him. Then again its quite plausible how it took place.

I was in the same state of denial, as I wanted him to get Marlo. But after everything he's been through, that would have been the Hollywood way to do it. The Wire way is to make it as realistic as possible and having a death like that was the right way to do it. Remember back in season 4 when Omar was stalking Marlo and Mike was there? Omar looks at him and says 'he's just a kid'. Everything said in the Wire crops back up sooner or later.

a lot of people thought that the "balcony scene" with Omar was too hollywood...They put it in because it really happened, to the man the Omar character is loosely based on (Donnie
                              Andrews).

pretty cool interview with Michael K. Williams

Q - Toward the end, did Omar’s exploits ever get too unbelievable? I’m talking about when he jumped from that building and landed with only a broken leg.

A - That actually really happened. Omar’s character is based on a brother named Donnie Andrews. (On The Wire, the real-life Andrews played the gentleman that got shot and killed in that apartment with Omar). I said, “Donnie, man, what happened that night? What was going through your mind to jump through the window?” He said, “Michael, I wasn’t thinking. There was no time to think. I was just trying to escape some hot ones.” Your partner just got murdered. You got people gunning at you. And there’s an open window? What are you going to do?
