Re: U.S. Dead Last in Healthcare ranking
Well just last year or the year before a kid with a very serious ailment was flown to The Hospital for Sick Children. So let's not paint with such a broad brush
BTW HSC is known as the best pediatric hospital in the world. Again, I would know because I went there for YEARS.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Dingdingding!!
And there are many people who simply cannot afford their medications (Fibromayalgia pills can be upwards of $400/month for one medication, for example) and die due to that or complications arising from it.
Whenever Merck, Pfizer, and the rest of those dirty bastards turn a tidy profit (aka every year), my stomach turns along with it. Profiting off of people's misery, sickness, and pain is the absolute worst thing that any corporation or person can do as far as I'm concerned. And our entire system is set up to encourage and celebrate that fact.
Arguing against a national healthcare system is like arguing the merits of puppy-kicking. There is really no defensible position aside from ones that revolve around selfishness, profit, or simple maintenance of the status quo.Send your Midnight Release weirdo pics/videos to my new website: http://www.peopleofmidnightreleases.com!Comment

Great. I trust you will be the one to lead (and fund) the company which researches new and improved medications and provides it free of charge. I can't wait. Thanks man!!Comment

Re: U.S. Dead Last in Healthcare ranking
No of course not one person should do that. But how come those same drugs are so much less in places like Cuba? Because we are allowed to pay that much.Comment

I've gotten emails about Cuban pharmacies, but unfortunately haven't been sick enough to take them up on their amazing offers.
If anyone has, trip report please!Comment

Re: U.S. Dead Last in Healthcare ranking
No but I don't really think that is part of this argument. I'd rather use tax money towards people's health than stupid things like putting people who do weed in jail. Or people who do drugs in their own homes. Or funding stupid *** federal organizations like the FCC.Comment

Watch Sicko. And that wasn't the point I made, it was an honest question on why drugs can be so cheap there.Comment

Great, let people do all the drugs they want in their own home. That'll get our death rate down.No but I don't really think that is part of this argument. I don't want to spend my money paying taxes for a system that I don't need and people will abuse.Comment

Re: U.S. Dead Last in Healthcare ranking
Because their governments are sensible about this issue and not completely hog-tied by their allegiances to the pharmaceutical giants... and therefore allow reasonably-priced alternatives to be provided...
OR they provide them at no cost to the least-fortunate among them, as any industrialized nation should do.
Gojackets... Yet the rest of the industrialized world (and many 2nd and 3rd world nations with far less resources) somehow finds a way to provide those medicines (or reasonable alternatives that have the same effects) to their citizenry...
Maybe the research can be supported and subsidized by the government, but performed outside the influence of the very pharma-giants who have a vested interest in selling said product? Just a thought... Then maybe we wouldn't get so many rushed, unnecessary medications that have horrible side-effects and get pulled from the market -- the only reason they get rushed early is because there is money to be made and their clock is ticking. Phen-Phen and the rest of those disasters never would've happened if there was more oversight and the profit-making wasn't the primary concern when developing new medications and treatment options. Do you really think that so many kids need to be medicated in the first place, or is the constant need for "new and better" medications little more than a profit-motivated goose chase led by the companies that profit from it?Send your Midnight Release weirdo pics/videos to my new website: http://www.peopleofmidnightreleases.com!Comment
