Re: **Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread Part II**
Blzer, did you end up keeping your TV calibration settings that Best Buy did at your house, or did you go back to what you had originally?
Asking because I have not heard back from Chad B. and I wrote an e-mail 2 months ago. Been thinking about the Best Buy calibration.
Otherwise, I stuck with his base, did my own tweaks, and prefer them to my old settings. If I had the option between paying a cent for BBY calibration and having Chad B., I would go with Chad. Because it's free, it won't hurt you one bit. Just keep your old settings stored somewhere, and then compare and contrast at the end of the day. Just don't expect a revelation from the guy since he doesn't touch any of the 10p white balance stuff.
If I can find my settings he provided me earlier in this thread, I'll compare them to what I changed them to just to show how many/little changes were actually made.Last edited by Blzer; 11-20-2012, 11:36 PM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: **Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread Part II**
I tweaked them, but mostly just the white balance settings. My whites never really looked white after the guy left; they just looked far too green. That wasn't being unaccustomed to the new look, either. His measurements were just off.

Believe me when I say that, as small as some of these changes look, they make big differences between how he left them and how they are now.Last edited by Blzer; 11-21-2012, 05:03 AM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: **Official Blu-Ray & HD-DVD Thread Part II**
I also have a Samsung Plasma. I know they aren't the same model number TV's, but I tried these settings on my TV just to see what they look like. It definitely looks like it would take some getting used to watching it this way. Haha. I guess you adjust over time.
For whatever reason, I'm not able to change my HDMI Black Level on my TV. I can't even highlight it. It is stuck on normal.
Is it better to leave stuff like Gamma, Dynamic Contrast, Black Tone, and Flesh Tone at 0 or default too? That's what I currently have mine set for.Comment

Don't know why you can't change the HDMI Black Level. Are you on HDMI?Maybe do it when you fire up your PS3 or something, then it might enable. Might be good to turn on Cinema Smooth when you put in a Blu-ray as well (gives you 1080p/24).
And yes, turn off anything that's processing like Dynamic Contrast or any filters. Gamma is adjusted with everything else, so leave it at 0 unless you changed everything by raising/lowering it as well.Last edited by Blzer; 11-21-2012, 03:05 PM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Well, all televisions are different. My settings for my TV may be worse for you than what you had before.

Was doing some research, and I found that besides Best Buy, there is actually a place right in my town called Audiolab that has an ISF calibration service. Might give them a call and check it out.Comment

I don't use my PS3 as a Blu-ray player. I have a regular Sony Blu-ray player hooked up to my Plasma with HDMI.

Curious, by the way... what is it about the picture that would "take some time to getting used to"? Is it the colors? The white balance? Do the whites look white with those settings? The "darkness" (if your picture was brighter and more vivid)? Is the warmer temperature?Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

I tried out your day settings which looked much darker for me probably because I had my daytime viewing set on Dynamic. Haha.
From what I can see, the whites look pretty good, but the colors seem a little dull, but not bad. But like I said, probably because of having it on Dynamic previously.
I definitely want a good picture for watching normal cable television, but I'm more concerned with having a top notch picture for Blu-ray viewing.Comment

Well, I already had somewhat similar settings for night time movie watching on my Blu-ray player. Movie mode, Warm2, etc.

See if you can get used to this. I'd also recommend a DarbeeVision Darblet if you're in the market for a little more pop on your screen, especially for Blu-ray movies. It's mentioned a little more in the Plasma vs. LCD thread (something all of this should probably be in haha), but the price is hiked back up again since the first month or so of release.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment
