Universal's 'Shaun of the Dead' is slated to hit Blu-ray on September 22, however it seems Best Buy customers will be able to get it a month early.

It could just be a typo, but the Best Buy website lists the title as available for purchase on August 25 for $19.99 (suggested list price for the Blu-ray is $29.98).
I just got Shaun of the Dead for $20 and I'll be getting Hot Fuzz this weekend.

I hate that Universal changed the menu, the dvd menu was great.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

Really? How is it? The DVD menu was amazing - a real good Romero vibe going on.

It's the typical Universal Blu Ray menu, the same as what's in Sarah Marshall, Role Models, and whatever else they've made.

Gladiator and Braveheart both come out on BD tomorrow. Early reviews are saying Gladiator transfer turned out bad, but Braveheart is STUNNING. I was really hoping to get Gladiator. Guess I'll have to rent from Netflix and judge for myself.

Anybody had a chance to watch Gladiator or Braveheart yet? I've noticed that if you buy both you get $10 off, plus you can get a mail-in rebate of $10 each if you already have the standard def versions. Both are in my Netflix queue.

Didn't watch them yet, but I've heard nothing but bad things about the Gladiator transfer. I suppose it's the best up-to-date version of it so far and it may not disappoint to those who don't expect a superior version, but I think they messed up with this one, which is probably why it's already running through cheap deals and such (makes me realize why movies like American Psycho and The Italian Job could be found so cheap).

Gladiator made me realize that I'm not a videophile. I read hundreds of reviews on Amazon, AVS and High Def Digest and from that I thought that Gladiator would be the worst looking Bluray ever. I still bought it with Braveheart and guess what....it looks good on my 46' Samsung. Could it look better? Yes, but its no where near as bad as those folks would have you think.

Understandable, and I'm not necessarily a videophile per se, but I really do struggle to seek perfection out of the latest and greatest, and if I know that they don't have it then I am disappointed that what I'm seeing can look better, you know?

I mean high-definition is high-definition, so technically it should always look good enough, or rather better than what versions you used to see. But to know that either it could look better or they will re-release it with a better encode down the road would be a deterrent to slot a title into my instant purchase catalog.

No, you are a videophile and there is nothing wrong with that. I remember the discussion you had about the Dark knight a while back. My rule is simple. Does it look good to me? Gladiator looked good to me so I was happy. Now I can tell that Braveheart had a better transfer but its not a huge difference to me.

Perhaps I am; what I meant by "videophile" was using technicalities to explain the video's flaws. And I don't mean describing edge-enchancement, but I mean narrowing the frames down by the bitrates on every encode.

And I would say that my complaint is valid, but it was justified (and I apologized here for blaming Warner) when I re-watched TDK in IMAX when it came out again and noticed that it had the same issue there. It was because they needed to actually sharpen those other images in order to try and keep some consistency with the IMAX shots.

In short, one thing they can do if they ever re-release this movie is they can use the original cut for the non-IMAX shots (like you would see on a regular screen where they didn't have to apply EE), and believe me when I say that you will see a difference.

But you're right in the sense that I really do see flaws and report them, but it will normally be concerning black levels or DNR. EE was only really a drawback for me in movies like TDK and Body of Lies, etc.

I don't have Gladiator yet, but I'm probably going to end up feeling the same way as you. I have no idea what DNR and edge enhancement are, and I have absolutely zero interest in finding out what it is. I have around 60 blu-rays or so, and they all look great to me because they're in high definition, and that's more than good enough for me. Now there are a few that just tend to look less 'sharp' than other blus, but in general, I'm happy with the way every blu I have looks so far. So I'm sure Gladiator is going to look great to me.
