Trob, what did you think of Corinne Bailey Rae's album this year.

Put Cee Lo in the car today. Bright Lights is gonna be a great song for cruising. I posted a comment on the video at youtube and said if I was a pimp I would hire a goon to walk behind me with an old school tapedeck playing this song everywhere I go. Its bangin. I noticed people were calling out the bassline for sounding similar to Billie Jean; definitely has that feel, but its a very good thing.

Nope. Last album was Underground Atlanta in 09'. Was supposed to come out with an album this year, but it got pushed back to early 11'.

Trob, what did you think of Corinne Bailey Rae's album this year.

Oh wow, I forgot about that. I think it was solid too, nice change of pace record for specific kinds of days.

Yeah, it's a cruising song for sure. It's sweeping, makes you feel like the opening of a movie. I didn't get the flak for the bass line either. I get the Billie Jean similarities too but that's what I like about it. It's great.

I didn't notice it until I read the comments while I was watching the video. It does sound similar but its not the same thing. They're both funky, struttin', rolling basslines, but that's it. The way I see is that Billie Jean and Bright Lights are telling two parts of the same story. Bright Lights is the first part of the night and Billie Jean is the last part of the night.

Anyway, as an overall album The Ladykiller is pretty much on fire the whole time. There's so many different dynamics being created and continuing on throughout the album its quite amazing. Cee Lo manages to touch on a bunch of different styles and bring them together pretty damn nicely; there's rockabilly, Tom Jones, motown, plus a bunch of other elements that I'm hearing come together. Not to mention the album has a genuinely cinematic feel that is (thankfully) blatantly James Bond spy love.

Favorite tunes emerging are: Old Fashioned, Love Gun, and Its Ok.

The song "What would you" or something titled like that is hands down the best song on the ablum. It's classic Donell Jones.
