D'angelo is working on new material but no release date.

If you havn't heard Bilal's first and only cd "1st Born Second," I highly recommend it. He has an amazing voice. His second album was shelved by his record company I think, but I can't wait for his (or D'angelo's) new music.

I really like Erykah Badu's latest also - "New Amerykah". The track "Master Teacher" featuring Bilal is a gem.

I consider Alicia Keys r&b - her latest "As I Am" is the best cd I've heard in the last year by far.

Van Hunt is another lesser known r&b artist.

I'm not sure if you consider Prince r&b but a lot of his music is. Over the last couple years i've picked up a bunch of old and new prince albums. He is a genius.

        love this thread....

I feel like D'angelo is more comparable to Prince with the way he sings and plays instruments. I hope he gets healthy and stays off drugs because his music is on another level.

Is Jill Scott's latest album great/good/ok? I've bought all her cds except this last one. In my opinion her first album is a classic while the others havn't quite captured the same magic.

Love R&B. Good call on Maxwell. I have a few of his albums. Some of my favorites, not too old school included too, that I haven't seen mentioned (the disabled embedding on some sucks):
