Michael K Williams did something very special with the Omar character. It was one of a kind.

It was also so cool watching the evolution of the smaller characters throughout five seasons. Herc, Carver, Prez, etc..

That era of HBO was SO amazing. The Wire, the Sopranos, Deadwood, Rome, Band of Brothers, Curb Your Enthusiasm, you cannot beat that. This "second coming" with Boardwalk Empire, True Blood, Treme, The Pacific (which I felt was better than BoB after the absolutely phenomenal second half of the series) is starting to get close to the HBO of the past decade. These are shows that will still have an audience and impact 50 years from now, in my opinion. Truly revolutionary stuff in television.

As a cop, they freaking nailed all aspects of this. I can't tell you how awesome this entire series was. I laughed, wanted to cry but couldn't because the girl was there, and was on the edge of my seat.

I am going to get the series for myself for Christmas because it needs to be in my house. I want to support the people who put it together by buying it.

I just re-watched the series with my brother. I almost forgot how great Avon is. By far my favorite character. My brother was so excited at the scene when Avon and his crew were at the stash house. I felt bad when the cops showed up to bust him lol.

Just started rewatching this show. On the last episode of season 1, and even though after I finished it the first time, I said it was the greatest show of all time, I think I like it even more now. Now when I see the runners in season 1, having seen season 4 already, I wonder what their lives are like.

It's just amazing how this show walks you through the whole game. It shows you the part of drugs that most people associate with, the cops and dealers. Then shows you how the middle class is involved, after that you see why the cops pursue them the way they do, how kids get into it, and how you become/stay a leader and are slain one way or another. Pure brilliance.

For anyone who does not have these, this is a good deal. Do not go for the complete series package. It's the worst packaging I ever seen on a show and it scratches the discs. It's a shame that this great show got packaging like that especially seeing some real cool ones like The Sopranos or Six Feet Under.

I've had no problem with that packaging. Had the series for two years now and nothing has happened to it.

After hearing so many great things about this show I put it on my list (Zip.ca) to watch.
I tried, and tried, but I couldn't even get through the first episode. It moved so slowly and none of the characters were all that appealing.

I might try again during the holidays but the show didn't grab me in the first 40 minutes.

I feel that way with most new shows that I start watching. Mainly because I don't have any connection to any of the character's and I'm not sure where and how they all fit. However, once I get 3-4 episodes in and get a better understanding of everyone then it sucks me in.

With The Wire I don't think anyone was completely floored with the first episode or two but, once you get past those thing's really pick up and it's quickly becomes the best show that I've ever watched. I can't even explain it. This show is just perfect in every way. You owe it to yourself to see it. I promise once you get half-way through the first season you'll be hooked. Well unless you have A.D.D or something.

After the first 2 or 3 episodes I felt the same, but 1 or 2 more and it all clicked and I couldn't stop. I watched all 5 seasons in about 2 months.

As others have said, if you can get past the first 3 episodes you will be hooked.

Honestly I bet most felt like this. When you look at all these great reviews I would try again. I'm thinking about buying that complete series. 90? That sounds too good to pass up, just for my collection.

I remember reading somewhere that Simon didn't want the series to be on blu-ray, but I really hope that changes sometime in the future. I would just love for this to be in high-def and would be a first day buy for me.
