Like, I understand Omar walks the fine line between man and legend. Clearly, him jumping out of the window from the 5th story or whatever is definitely on the "legend" side of things, but it just felt a little cartoonish.

That was a brain fart moment in writing... just not possible to escape, but the getting done in by a kid was definitely realistic

Oh yeah for sure. That makes sense especially with the way they were setting the kids up to "fill in" for the old dogs we started with.

I feel like I'm being overly hard on the season, but those little things just stick out. Still a lot of great moments and character development still stayed at a high level despite the wonkiness.

Season 5 was the only season that I felt got worse on my second watch. I always laugh at "It's in my notes!" though.

I hated that guy as soon as he popped up on the screen.

IIRC, the Omar jump scene was based on a true story from one of the characters Omar was constructed from.

I may be wrong, but I thought the Writers Strike had something to do with how Season 5 turned out. Not sure.

I have All The Pieces Matter waiting on me to finish season 5 before I start reading it - hopefully that'll offer some more insight into the season. A part of me sees Gus at the Sun as a stand-in for Simon, but that's just a feeling I have and nothing else.

Not many spoilers in there. Mostly just interviews, stories on how things came together (and fell apart, but then also came together again) for the show. Hell of a read though to hear from all the people involved with the show.

We *finally* finished season 5 and I've started on All The Pieces Matter. I've only read the first chapter or so which basically covers getting Simon to HBO, the casting & crew, and some early, early things.

Season 5 just feels blah the whole time. There's some disappointment there and with the finale, but it's whatever at this point. Like season 4 the last couple of episodes felt rushed into place to get the pieces to fit where they needed to.

The Ringer is doing an episode by episode podcast with Van Lathan and Jemele Hill.

The Ringer is prepping a new show, 'The Wire: Way Down in the Hole,' that will deep dive into every episode of the HBO crime drama, starting with season one.

I'm taking my sweet time, but I'm down to the final season.

Season 4 was incredible. Lived up to the hype and then some.

Kinda crazy this story written in 1987 by David Simon really has a lot of Parallels to The Wire.

The wire took a lot of influence from real people. Nathan Barksdale, Marlow Bates, Timmirror Stanfield

Just got done rewatching it, and seeing things and even comparisons that I hadn't thought about before, especially with all these different groups throughout the series.

Still taking my sweet time, but I'm about halfway through Season 5. As a former newspaper hack, I'm probably enjoying this one more than most people. Brings back memories. Although the whole serial killer thing seems a bit too over the top.

Gus may be my favorite character now; and Templeton may have passed Ziggy as my least favorite.

Underrated moment for me: Bunk bringing Lester in to talk some sense into McNulty, and Lester winds up not only helping McNulty, but gives him ideas to take it up a notch.

Hoping to finish up this week and then start from the beginning again over the holidays.
