IIRC, the show really wasnt that popular during its original run.

Ratings were low but the show was still critically acclaimed while it was on so I'm surprised it didn't receive ONE Emmy bone.

It's aged pretty well for me. But that first time through was brutal. It sets up a lot of stuff that a normal show would have done in the first season.

They still should have had multiple Emmy wins. Except for The Sopranos are any of those other shows in The Wire's class?

Looking at some of the winners it's hard to explain the rationale. But even ignoring the drama series snubs, nothing for Bubbles is crazy to me.

IIRC, the show really wasnt that popular during its original run. Almost got cancelled after S1. The change in the primary characters uhhhh demographics in S2 saved the show lol. I believe S2 was its highest rated year.

Then they almost got canceled after 3, Simon had to fight to get the last 2 seasons made. Would've been a tragedy not to have at least season 4.

One of the things I loved about the show is getting to hear people talk like real people. I guess the Frank Sobotkas of the world appreciated hearing their voice as well lol.

That last scene with Duke and Mike still ****s me up, man. Duke trying to reminisce about last summer and Mike not even remembering it illustrated just how much Mike really wasn't a kid anymore. Mike was 14 or 15 at most.

When Dukie looked back for Mike's car and he was gone... Man. Him going to Prez was rough too. More I think about it they should've swept outstanding drama 3-5 easy.

YOOO!! Glad someone else feels that way. I love Wood Harris in everything.

Definitely read the book, addresses the mystery of why they weren’t nominated for awards and stuff. Among so much more. If you think you liked the show, you’ll be blown away. They made this as authentic as possible for TV. Great stories retold in that book.

Smh. My wife and I watched this about 2-3 years ago together (first time for both of us) and we both loved it. We meant to watch it again but I had to introduce her to other shows: Breaking Bad, SoA, Ballers, Power, etc. Then we started watching other shows like GoT.....


I think it's time we revisit The Wire. Thanks, y'all.

Yeah, I would like to see Wood in a lot more. I'm glad he got a gig in the Creed flicks and it was great to see him in a short run (with brother Steve) on Justified but you'd figure he'd be more in demand.

Seasons: 4 > 3 > 5 > 1 = 2

Songs: 4 > 1 > 2 > 3 >>>5

5 gets a big push because everything ended but if it were just on what the seasons focus was, that would be last.

Songs: 4 > 1 > 2 > 3 >>>5

5 gets a big push because everything ended but if it were just on what the seasons focus was, that would be last.

Seasons: 3>4>2>5>1
Songs: 1>4>3>2>5

I loved season 5, but I honestly loved the 3 above it a lot more. I'm positive I've ranked these different at some point before, and probably again after I rewatch it.

As for the songs, 1 and 4 will always my favorites. I still have both saved as instrumentals for ring tones��
