Yeah but when Landsman and whoever went HAM on bird in the interview room that and when he worked Kima's shooting scene and traced it to that pay phone showed that for all his BS Landsman was a Cops, Cop for better or worse.

Ah, the whole Bird capture episode is awesome. That dude was a stone cold killer.

It was Landsman, Kima and surprisingly, Daniels, who give him an, umm, introduction to the justice system.

Definitely a good cop, just not a dude I'd keep close. They have issue with Rawls and Carver (well, a snitch in the detail whom Daniels figures out is Carver later) but Landsman seems to get a pass. Seemed disjointed.

Landsman was despicable....but really well-played by Delaney Williams.

That's right, good call. Although McNulty got him back by pinning that floater on his jurisdiction. It's so funny watching how hard McNulty can work when properly motivated...

I liked Landsman. He took care of his team and department. I never got the sense that he was a career oriented guy like Daniels or Rawls. He did enough to cover his own ***, but he also wanted to make his guys look good and covered their backs. He does go to bat for McNulty several times before McNulty gets shipped out.

Now, once you leave his team then all bets are off. McNulty was not saint either after all.

McNulty would help you build a bridge to cross the otherside and then burn it down once he crossed over while leaving you behind, lol.

Oh yeah, McNulty was a fire starter without a water source. He drug so many people in to his twisted games, though he was trying to make the city a safer place by doing it. He was trying to clean stuff up from the bottom up, which most agencies weren't interested in doing.

Of course, he later manipulates the evidence to get the attention of higher ups which is wrong no matter how you slice it, but he was real police, brother. That attitude was contagious, thankfully the shady stuff wasn't outside of bringing Freamon in and Bunk, though The Bunk didn't want any part of it.

I view it more as he would burn it down while both of you were standing in the middle of it... His major character flaw was primarily that he was self-destructive, and in the process of being self-destructive, hit a lot of people with collateral damage. But I never got the sense that he was self-interested to an extreme or exploitative.

I always compared McNulty to Templeton from the Sun. McNulty no matter what he did, had good intentions, he wanted to see Baltimore be a safer city. Compare that Templeton who would do anything to move up his career ladder, including all the BS quotes he would include in his pieces, as well as making up that phone call and kidnapping.

Finished the series up for the 3rd time, and I still wish there was more to see.

I read an interview with David Simon who mentioned they had an idea for a 6th season, which was supposedly going to focus on immigration and how immigrants were changing the character of the city. I would like to have seen that, since in all honesty, I never really liked how that last season shaped up - the whole faked serial killer thing just never really worked for me.

Yep depending on casting that 6th season could've been really good too. I left home in 2000 and came back 5 years later and the shifting demographics was clear.

I'm working my way through Season 3 right now, and a heated exchange between McNulty and Freamon stuck with me from Episode 4.

McNulty is out chasing Stringer and Freamon is pissed he's not tending to the case at hand (following Kintel Richardson). Freamon gives McNulty a dressing down only a wise old man can get away with, almost coming to blows.

Freamon retreats to his office and McNulty leaves. Immediately after, Freamon emerges from his office and demands Prez to "pull those ****ing property records" on Stringer.

I laughed. Freamon knew that Stringer was the more important target, but he respected his commanders enough to follow orders and also tend to Stringer's going-on's.
