I can't believe Thug has done this, I'm dead. What an angel, such a legendary icon giving Elton John a feature like this.

Been a wild last month or so, Mac passing, Cardi and Nicki's whatever that was (Cardi lost btw), Eminem coming back out, I'm sure there's more...

Best song on Kamikaze to me, mostly because of Joyner, glad it got a video:

          Spoiler

His response to MGK (he killed this man before he even started rapping just mocking that "your beard's weird" line Em has been yelling at the mic tho):

          Spoiler

The only mention of kamikazes in 2018 I care about, turn it off after J.I.D, Pouya is not it:

          Spoiler

Check this out, dope Earthgang Colors performance, Dreamville OP:

          Spoiler

          This week's stuff:

Noname released her follow up to Telefone, she came up in the same Chance the Pastor/Saba Chicago class and was the feature on Lost from Acid Rap if you remember that (great song btw). Her stuff is super smooth:

          Spoiler

More R&B because the whole album is great (East Atlanta Love Letter by 6Lack) but the star of the show here is J. King Cole, this is his year man, dude is killing everything.

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread

I've never been "up-to-date" and always feel like I'm behind when it comes to finding new avenues to pursue. So major props to Jalen here for basically running this thread this year and feeding me some good ****.

                J. Cole - KOD starts with fire and rolls through to the end catching fire to everything. The title song sets a tone and bar that maintains itself throughout. For me the album hits high marks on KOD, Photograph, ATM, and FRIENDS. Of course I had to go back and introduce myself to his previous albums as a result.

Noname - Major props for this one. Room 25 comes in smooth and calm so it gets you nice and relaxed, but there's still a smoldering fire running throughout the album thanks to some great lyricism. Songs hit hard despite the chill nature.

KIDS SEE GHOSTS - I didn't see this in here which is surprising considering its Kanye and Kid Cudi. Maybe I didn't look hard enough. Either way - a mother ****ing Mos Def/Yasiin Bey sighting AND Andre 3000 writing/producing credit? That'll draw me every time. The production is spacey and flows similarly throughout. I haven't listened to it enough to start picking out favorites or offer much of a breakdown, but Freeee is a notable so far. It's a nice album overall - a good cruiser for sure.

I've started to get into a heavy listening pattern with Big Krit. I'm not sure what led me to him, but I'm glad it did. I love the cosmic, Outkast influenced production and flow.

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread

Free is actual trash, delete that song ASAP. Reborn tho...Check out Cole's mixtapes too, The Warm Up, Friday Night Lights, both Truly Yours (Cole Summer is one of my favorite songs by him), they're all free. Krit's great, I only listened to him on features for a long time before I got into his solo stuff. Moon & Stars with Curren$y and Red Eye are my favorite songs by him. There's a song from a few years ago on a Khaled album called They Ready with Krit, Cole, and Kendrick. Great song, if you haven't heard it.

This week's stuff (Spillage Village singles, Carti, Lupe, Thug)...

Straight to the hate. I see you, but you wrong.

I've been listening to KIDS SEE GHOSTS non-stop since yesterday. The whole album is fantastic so no point in really trying to pin down a favorite at the moment. It really bangs the whole time - even when it backs off like on Freeee.

I'll check out that Krit and Cole stuff.

Did you catch that YBN mixtape?

Yeah, I try to listen to everything. The thing about YBN is they're a collective (really a group of random teenagers who met online) so they make completely different types of music. This may not mean anything to you (if you don't listen to a lot of rap) but Nahmir uses a Bay Area Flow and Jay sounds almost exactly like Rich the Kid on some songs. The important part there being those dudes don't sound like Cordae. He put out a video for Target yesterday. There was an interview where he mentioned the tape was done before he got there and he added stuff after. Target, Whip It Up, Kung Fu, & Pain Away are the songs I have on my iPod from that tape with him on it. I **** with the other two to varying degrees but it's just very different music.

The new Roc Marciano album that dropped last week could be my hip hop album of 2018. Admittedly I no longer listen to the number of releases I once did. Though at the moment nothing I can think of touches it.

I hadn't listened to it yet just saw it pop up yesterday. Spotify isn't too hot with it's notifications. I was disappointed by the lack of Cordae (but noticed he's put out a couple new songs since July), but it makes sense after your explanation.

I'll have to check this out, I tried to get into him with Rosebud's Revenge last year but I have a thing with songs that are poorly mixed (unfortunately a lot of underground hip hop). Felt like I could barely hear him, but I heard it was better on 2. He gets a ton of praise from people I know.

Still reeling from that SNL performance...biggest falloff in rap history. This dude said the words "Follow your heart, and stop following your minds!" I ****ing can't...Meanwhile,

"IT'S BEEN ME AND YOUNG TUNE OFF THE RIP"

I'm just so happy it's finally out, must've listened to it 6 times already. Intro had me in my feelings, never a big X fan and that hook was not it, Dedicate is amazing, torn on Uproar, it's obviously the Special Delivery beat again which he already went over on Green Ranger with Cole, and said he didn't like it lol. Can't Be Broken is amazing, I was prepared to hate Dark Side of the Moon but even it isn't bad, Mona Lisa with that Kendrick verse is what I expected, he never misses, reminds me almost of the way he had the outro on Drake's album. Don't Cry and What About Me are the only songs I outright don't like, top 5 in no order: Dedicate, Let It Fly (even though Trav sounds weird on the hook), Dope Ni***z, Perfect Strangers (I def should hate this song, don't know why I like it so much), and Used 2. Last verse on Let It All Work Out is awesome, probably the most personal Carter, really interesting to see there's still songs from the leaked 2014 tracklist, and knowing they were probably all re-recorded. And he's projected for 500k first week, happy for my guy. Biggest surprise is there's no Drake feature, cannot believe it. Need the deluxe with a Drake track for sure, just doesn't feel right.

In other news, Logic dropped a new album...I dunno when I'll get to it, but there's a song with the entire Wu-Tang Clan on it so I'll get to that first.

                              Spoiler

                              New SOBxRBE album too.

Roc Marciano is a TRUE throwback, his voice just sounds so 90's. He sounds so sincere but he's hilarious. "Rubber burners in them Germans, we some earners, earnest, we don't give a ****, we some virgins". Definitely makes sense why my first intro to this dude was on Action Bronson projects. This dude is really rapping over straight samples with no added drums though, very much an acquired taste, it makes the project feel a little sleepy. Still dope though.

Lupe sold less than 5k smh, hip-hop is dead.

Lots of albums this week (Sheck Wes, new Ghostface, Mozzy, Dom Kennedy, I already heard the new Lil Baby & Gunna and it's just alright, they mixed Drip Too Hard differently and it sounds much worse than the single version), but I found this one this week so I'm calling it new: Whack World by Tierra Whack. 15 songs, 1 minute each for a 15 minute album. It's weird but in a super dope way. And there's a video for the whole thing:

Need 4 minutes of Flea Market, Cable Guy, 4 Wings, Hookers, Pet Cemetery, Silly Sam, the whole thing ffs. **** Off threw me off at first with that accent, but she was flowin by the end. Cool idea, even better execution.
