Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread

I’m sorry but I don’t see his death as a ‘death in hip hop’ issue. My basic outlook on how he’s conducted himself from the jump is you can’t continue to act like a street dude when you’re such a big public figure. Cos even if you’re not doing the same **** you used to, other dudes are, and one day it’s gonna backfire.

I’m sad to see another young black man lose his life to violence, but he clearly didn’t understand that his actions have consequences. And his actions have been ****ty as hell.

Look, he was an established, credible artist with a strong fanbase. I wasn't a fan of his music personally, but a loss of life is still significant. It doesn't matter the reason behind his murder just like with Big L, Notorious B.I.G., Tupac, Scott La Rock or Mac Dre.

A death is a death, it shouldn't have to be qualified to matter to the culture/music.

I'm hoping some of these younger artists take something positive from this tragic loss.

He was trying to turn his life around and take a more positive path, unfortunately someone had it out for him....

Better off just saying you have no sympathy for rappers because that’s basically how this post comes off as.

Yeah...that was surreal, following the news in real time, seeing twitter videos of his dead body. Still kinda unsure how to feel, this Pharoah Monche tweet summed it up pretty well while I was taking in opinions yesterday:

Twitter and everywhere was an absolute warzone. Given the drama of all the allegations, this is tough to process.

I do have sympathy for rappers cos I pretty much exclusively listen to hip hop.

But you can’t beat pregnant woman and threaten to rape her and beat a gay dude half to death and think you’re untouchable. It’s like how Bobby Shmurda turned straight up snitch on a song and we were supposed to be surprised his dude ended up in jail.

Granted this won’t be related to that, but dude was a ****ty person. I’m not saying he deserves to die or anything cos I get a good feeling out of watching bad people turn their lives around and I think the biggest shame here is he didn’t get the chance to do that.

The cell phone bit reminds me of an episode of Black Mirror, a woman is being chased and people are just pulling out there cell phones to film it. There's deeper parts to that episode but that's the initial gist.

Sad to see the whole thing unfold with this young man. RIP.

Lil Purrp was yesterday but he sucks. There might only be like 2 or 3 freestyles/cypher verses to listen to this year, they really picked (aside from J.I.D.) a non-rapping class.

Slick Rick sample is great on the second song. Don't feel the same about the sample on White Label, just too busy at times. Dream and Nas sound great on Everything, I wish Kanye wasn't on it. Adam and Eve is dope.

You gotta be on a whole other level to listen to Kanye and Cudi.

It's definitely an... eclectic collection of sounds lol. The only song I go back to at this point is Reborn. I like Feel the Love but Kanye comes on at the end screaming in my ear and kills that for me. I was surprised to see the reception it got, a lot of people rating it super highly. I can't even listen to the whole thing straight through, I can't stand that song Free and it's right in the middle.

I think the 7 track album helped Push and hurt Nas but I'm not really sure why I feel that way. I feel like I need more from him.

I thought that was the point though. Put real facts in with blatant myths and see how many people believe (not unlike what's done alot today).

Or maybe it flew completely over my head.

Maybe, it didn't sound like it, and I'm not really sure what the purpose of that would even be.

I went on rapgenius and some of the annotations are incredible to me. Some people are saying "Well he mentioned Alzheimers in the line before so maybe he's mimicking a person with Alzheimers and intentionally saying wrong things". It's interesting to see what people take from it. Maybe he'll end up annotating it himself, I think he's done it before.

                              beats.

Nowadays "beats" are made to be "suggestively good" Like "oh you gotta think about this beat" kinda thing

He did a freestyle with the LA Leakers that caught my attention and reminded me of this song:

I haven't heard too much from him but I like what I've heard so far, he skates all over the Lil Pump beat (2nd one).
