Something about his tone and flow, he definitely kinda falls into the beat a lot of the time. I like it but a lot of his songs would sound the same if he wasn’t on them if that makes any sense. He raps on a lot of guitar samples which is an easy in for me. He’s best to me on features where you can see other people try something and then he comes in and it’s like “oh no that’s what it’s supposed to sound like”. Stuff like Midnight with Tessa Thompson, W with Koffee, Numbers with A Boogie. He’s just always in his pocket.

I just cut off all of my friends, and brought my brothers in

I can see me taking the lead over the new school”
I can see it too. But they need to turn the beat up on Heatin Up.
Watched Royce’s Breakfast Club interview and listened to the album again. They asked him about the Yelawolf beef and how he responds to Eminem’s old Black women raps, and he said “I’m not standing next to anything that’s not beneficial to my people” and I’m like YO ASK HIM RIGHT THE **** NOW and of course they didn’t.
Oldheads should appreciate the sample on Herb’s intro, I prefer Party In Heaven, even PTSD got Chance back in his old bag. That whole album is pretty decent.
New PND will have you apologizing to your girl for **** you didn’t even do. Jhene remixed a so that’s like 10 years old and it’s dope.
Drake released a new single that’s 2 songs in one, both of which are flames but the video...man pulled out of his mansion in the Rolls Royce with the Spirit of Ecstasy replaced with an OVO owl with diamonds in the eyes. This being broke thing, I hate it here.
DZA Brick on my Neck is dope. Uzi sampling the Backstreet Boys...best release weekend of the year so far.Last edited by DieHardYankee26; 03-01-2020, 01:29 PM.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Started listening to GSH Pieces of a Man yesterday after someone posted The Revolution will not be Televised on reddit. Where have I heard “Home is Where the Hatred Is” sampled? “It might not be such a bad idea if I never went home again” I can hear it on an outro but I can’t remember the song.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

It's Cordae. Can't think of the song name off the top of my head, but it's definitely off his album last year.
Edit: Bad Idea w/ Chance the Rapper.

Also, that is a classic album by Gil Scott-Heron. May he R.I.P, man. We could use revolutionary voices like his today.

There's still some firebrand voices out there - jazz in particular.

Listened to the Sofia Chang episode of Questlove Supreme this morning. Her story by itself is fascinating and then to top it off with her stories about Wu-Tang Clan was even better. A lot of cool insight and some shared nerdiness between her and Questlove. I really need to watch the Hulu show.
Definitely recommend it: https://open.spotify.com/episode/7Fd...TrmTgnTZPV2_HA

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
Jay Elec album release day, what a time to be alive.
First Uzi doing the deluxe album the right way, putting out a whole new album worth of material that I can just make a separate album and not have to disturb the original so good on him for that. Should've made the first half of his Kobe verse the hook, it sounds so good. Features came through, 21, Durk, and Nav especially. My Nav fandom may have reached a new high with "Made a cult following like Jim Jones", he just says the most random **** and it's hilarious.
The only thing that stands out from Don Tolliver's album on the first listen is Euphoria but that's OK because when Travis is in his bag, **** is immaculate.
It's kinda weird that after what, 11 years, the album we've been waiting for and finally get is a joint album WTT 1.5 kinda thing. Every time I listen to a joint Jay-Z album (the one with Beyonce, WTT, this) I'm always asking myself do I like Jay-Z? I just feel like he does something to songs that makes me not like them unless he's by himself. My favorite song on this album by far is Fruits of the Spirit, Universal Soldier and the last one after that, at least for now.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Selection committee needs to be disbanded, are there people who think Ms Jackson is a better song than International Players Anthem? I Just Wanna Love You as a 1 seed...
Reading takes to the Jay Elec album is interesting. I just don’t think Jay-Z outdid him on any song other than Flux Capacitor and that’s just a bad beat for Jay Elec imo. I still have yet to hear a collab album where Jay-Z washes somebody, and I grew up in a house that remembers Best of Both Worlds.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Hov rapped circles around that man for the entire album. Jay Elec underwhelmed across the whole project.

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
It's weird walking around hearing 8 year old girls quoting Ms. Jackson word for word. I remember loving it the first time I've heard it, but any song is going to get worn out being in rotation for 20 years.
