    Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread

    I honestly think I just don’t like Jay-Z’s voice. Like I don’t hate it, but it’s like a C tier rap voice.

Now that the world is about to end I need to admit Jay-Z has never clicked with my personal tastes apart from the Black Album and his singles.

I thought Hov was just “meh” on that album, which is pretty much how he’s been outside of his verse on What’s Free.

Twitter gonna sice it(DC Slang for gassing)and make it seem like Electronica wasn’t worth a damn on it.

Reading takes to the Jay Elec album is interesting. I just don’t think Jay-Z outdid him on any song other than Flux Capacitor and that’s just a bad beat for Jay Elec imo. I still have yet to hear a collab album where Jay-Z washes somebody, and I grew up in a house that remembers Best of Both Worlds.

Stan was a #2 seed but What We Do is an 8 seed? I’m curious to see these people who come up with mess like that.

What about Reasonable Doubt? That I think is undisputed top 25 or so rap albums ever. Blueprint is amazing too but honestly the whole thing damn near is singles so you may have that one covered.

I really am curious the criteria. Putting Grindin up against Hustlin in the first round has to be against some kind of Hip Hop Constitution, and letting Best I Ever Had in as a 2? One Mic as a 15? Can’t Tell Me Nothing vs Dipset Anthem in the first is another tough one, Takeover vs Through the Wire.
My final 4 was International Players Anthem, Can’t Tell Me Nothing, Day N Nite, and Still DRE. Still D.R.E. came up against Grindin and almost broke me, then it had to go against PSA. Honestly any of those 3 on a given day could win that for me.

Reasonable Doubt was one of the first rap albums I picked up along with Black on Both Sides and Black Star. The other two clicked with me immediately. RD is good and the production is great, but Jay has never really done it for me for some reason.

Finally doing the Hov discography run, I’m on vol 2...did this man invent “it was all good just a week ago”? I never knew where that phrase came from.

What's the general consensus on Gambino? Seems like there's not a lot of middle ground - I see the 'fake depth' stuff thrown around a lot.

I love Awaken My Love, but haven't really listened to anything else apart from Because the Internet.

                      I’d probably rank them:

                      1. Awaken, My Love

                      2. 3.15.20

                      3. Because The Internet.

At this point, I’m just ready for King Kendrick to bless the culture and drop his new project at 3:45am on a Wednesday.

I'd probably go Because the Internet > Awaken My Love > Royalty > Camp >>>>> 3.15.20.

I love Redbone, but I'd take Telegraph Ave + and just the Zealots of Stockholm intro over any full project he's put together. None of his albums are that great as full bodies of work to me. He'll always have Freaks and Geeks.

Also, it was pretty much already the case but now that he's said "futuristic sex, give her Phillip K. Dick" I think the Weeknd's spot as my musical GOAT is cemented. Snowchild, Escape from LA, and Faith to go with the singles, this guy came through. Party next on Friday.

Conway EP is gonna have a Schoolboy song on it, all the TDE dudes are too quiet. Even SZA. Park by Isaiah Rashad came on shuffle the other day and I almost had to see if this man was still alive.

Jay chronicles continue...what commercial is the sample from Blueprint 2 the song in? I can hear it but can't place it. Lots of good songs, not in love with the entirety of projects, but Blueprint...me thinking wow, Kanye is killing these samples when Never Change comes on, then Song Cry, Just Blaze showed out. Going through these albums I'm not sure I noticed how much my musical taste was developed around this guy.

Can't remember which song but dude said he had 3 classics on one of the songs on Blueprint...Blueprint is his 2nd classic to me. He was talking crazy to Nas like he didn't have the same record.

Nas was the first one I did on this run, can’t remember why. So far I’ve done Nas, Pac, Biggie, and now Jay. I wanted to do Scarface but something from his first album was trash and I fell off. Might try to do one with all of Wayne’s albums and mixtapes with all this extra time.
