The Earthgang album is really good. I have unhealthy love for Kehlani's voice, the singing part of her verse on Trippin is perfect. Meyhem Lauren EP, IDK's album the other day was pretty good.

Eastern Conference All Stars by Skyzoo and Pete Rock is great, all the Griselda guys feature and Elzhi. "And the endings is Jordan-esque or whichever way that the play goes, 'Cause six joints will get you whatever, I came as Thanos, I threw you jewels with an NYCHA flow, Blue and orange signs like I was on Dolan's payroll".

Second episode of the Wu Tang show has put me to sleep the last 2 nights, I need to watch it during the day. It's not bad, kinda hard to follow if you don't know their real names, they probably should've shown who they are the first time they pop up.

Earthgang album is good. Not sure where I'd put it on my list right now, but after the first listen I'd say it's in line with Dreamville's album. Swivel is so damn good I'm not even mad they double dipped. Other than that Top Down and Tequila stuck out the most to me.

Not sure how many Raphael Saadiq fans there are in here, but his new album Jimmy Lee is really good. There's a good verse from Daniel Watts on Rikers Island Redux which led me to a Titus Burgess EP that I'm currently listening to for some reason. It's a slow day here.

I watched the first 2 seasons, heard they put the new stuff up today. It's alright, a cool little walk through hip hop history, but it takes a long time to get where they're going so I wish they'd release the episodes sooner.

Got through the 3 episodes of the Wu Tang show, it's alright. I'll be tuning in every week, it has potential. Dude who plays Raekwon doesn't look anything like him but the vocal impression he's doing is kinda cool.

New Ghostface album is a new Ghostface album, some hits and some misses, I **** with Me Denny & Darryl (Meth goes in), Burner to Burner, Conditioning, maybe a couple others, whole thing isn't long. Conway EP is a Conway EP, Half of It is dope and kinda gives hope that he can have some kind of mainstream appeal, not that it's going to be big but you can hear people listening to it, it's got a more accessible beat, excited for his Shady debut. Little Brother's been my daily driver, might be contending with Bandana for AOTY, Black Magic is definitely one of my favorite songs of the year, if for no other reason than Phonte watches Billions.

Going through Outkast's discog, through Stankonia. I'm ranking them Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, ATLiens, Stankonia, Aquemini, best to worst so far but even the worst Outkast album is great (at least so far).

My order is literally the exact opposite.

There was some discussion on my FB feed about Earthgang being compared to Outkast. I didn't really pick it up overall, but feel the more energetic stuff is similar to the Stankonia bangers.

Rapsody's Eve has been my consistent go to for my drives to and from work. It's just so damn smooth throughout. Bandana is sticking around, too. Definitely have both at the top of my list for the year, rap or otherwise.

Ghetto Musick off of Speakerboxxx sounds like a precursor to Earthgang, the frenetic flow into the slowdown and everything.

I feel like the comparison is basically just them being 2 dudes in a group that you can clearly tell are from the South. Anything past that is just looking for trouble, can't compare anyone to a legend on the internet.

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread

It's the internet. There are no rules, man. Heck, I was reading a post on Reddit this weekend for Kid Cudi's Man on the Moon. I had no idea it's considered of the most influential albums of the last decade. Is that true or not? Who knows. It's a great album, but not one I ever thought about in that way.

Anyway, spent weekend's mornings at the courts with Eric B & Rakim, A Tribe Called Quest, Little Brother, Earthgang, and Outkats's (Big Boi's) Speakerboxxx.

I've never done a great job of going back to the classics and early stuff and putting time in like other genres. Not really sure why. I've listened to Paid in Full a handful of times. It's cool to hear "borrowed" lines from back in the day still getting used today. It makes for a nice little thread or connection that runs throughout the life of the genre. Anyway, Rakim is obviously talented and helps keep you from remembering this **** was put out in the 80s. Even if its "dated," it doesn't feel old or irrelevant. If that makes any sense. I'm a little bit more familiar with ATCQ. Well, at least Midnight Marauders and The Low-End Theory so I put on People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths for Rhythm. Yeah. I should just listen to their whole catalog I think. Pretty impressive album on first listen - found myself getting into a nice little groove with the music. Definitely one of those smooth & cool albums to put on for an easy weekend morning.

Sunday morning spent time with Little Brother, Earthgang, and Outkast. I guess it was unofficial Southern Sunday. Little Brother's I haven't spent too much time with mostly thanks to Eve coming out at the same time. Suffice to say each time I've listened to it it's been like a time trip back to early 2000s. Love the humor throughout and Pooh and Phonte keep that fire going the whole time. Earthgang is great. Right now I'd put it right in line with Cordae's debut - so a top 5 for now - maybe looking in from the outside by the end of the year. Definitely some Kast influences (Kid Cudi as well), but nothing that ever really becomes distracting. Their more frantic stuff definitely sidles up closer, but not enough for me to personally start drawing comparisons any deeper than surface level. A good versatile album - great introspective lyrics and moody beats and flipping to some smooth bangers. Excited to follow these guys in the future.

And Speakerboxx. Big Boi basically runs the game the entire side. Never really lets up. As always top quality, fresh beats. I didn't finish the album before I left, but going out on Church felt right for a Sunday morning.

I don't know if anyone's been keeping up with KXNG Crooked's Hip Hop Weekly's but he dropped a video for Life of a Bandana which is one of my favorites so far. This is his take on Nas's I Gave You Power, hits me in all the same places.

Dope story in that, finished Idlewild and was wondering what I was going to listen to next, guess I've got my reason to finally go through Nas's discog as I've never heard that song. Nvm, I've heard it but don't remember it.

Not keen on going through Big Boi's solo stuff? Or making a stop in Goodie Mob land?

                        I have never seen Idlewild.

I listened to Big Boi's stuff as it came out, other than his last album. I haven't missed much there. Might do Goodie Mob later on, not super compelled in that direction. I need to do Tupac again, I think I got 3 albums in and saw that All Eyez is double disc and just noped right out of there.

It’s probably the same article that was written about 10 years ago, but they the only thing they updated was the year.
