Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
Really ****ing with this A Boogie album, mostly for the features. Had never thought about it but he may fill the Juice WRLD void if he goes into the Me and My Guitar direction, but the features used my guys perfectly. Thug singing the hook on Might Not Give Up, Gunna taking over Numbers, Uzi the melody master on Luv is Art. Might be forgetting something but it’s probably tied for my favorite album out so far with Key Glock’s Yellow Tape, but the race doesn’t start until the 21 when Royce drops, those singles are crazy.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

A Brooklyn drill rapper, if you’re on Twitter a lot people memed him for his voice and then more recently for his veneers. His biggest song is Welcome to the Party.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
New album from Da Royce today. Slept on him until recently (unfortunately) so excited to check this out.
Rapsody's Eve vinyl finally came in last week so I had to spin it. I burned the hell out of it on Spotify last year, but getting this in is like a breath of new air.
MadGibbs' Bandana is boomeranging back around to me. Its just a smooth ride from top to bottom - no real fluff. Sets **** on fire and then leaves. The production sounds great on some real speakers.

Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
I have some very positive thoughts on it and some very negative ones, I’m gonna see which side wins out over the next few days, negative wins 8 times out of 10. There are things on this album that just don’t feel like skipping is enough, I might have to delete them.
Keep thinking of 100 (another Royce feature ironically).
Kendrick: “I gotta fine cause I ain’t wanna vote,

But those who lied to the minorities would make them turn inside they grave

New Duke Deuce album, didn’t notice until now but between Moneybagg, Key Glock, and now Duke, there’s a lot of Memphis in my rotation.Last edited by DieHardYankee26; 02-22-2020, 08:53 AM.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
I started listening to the Questlove Supreme podcast now that it has been added to Spotify as of December (and caught up with the Conan podcast). The episode I listened to this morning had Kurtis Blow on. It was truly fascinating to listen to and listen to Kurtis talk about the history and foundation. They both get a little nerdy which I personally enjoyed.
Definitely recommend it. Questlove is down to Earth and his love for music comes through so well. Looking at the other guests he brings on some interesting people: Rapsody, Esperanza Spalding, Tito Jackson, James Taylor, etc.

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
Royce LA Leakers freestyle is crazy:
Spits the first verse off Thou Shall but then wilds out after that.
I actually really enjoyed his album. Didn't realize he produced it in its entirety. I heard some people complaining about the production but I enjoyed it, thought it fit his style very well. My complaint about Royce in the past has been his tendency to be on beats that don't fit his style and he would end up changing to some weird awkward flow that sounded terrible. That or he would try to do something with crossover appeal that didn't appeal to either side.
This album sounds like he just wanted to rap, and he got other guys on it that just want to rap too. Thought all of his features delivered, especially Griselda.[NYK|DAL|VT]

I love I Play Forever and all of my guys features, that’s probably my second favorite Benny verse after Gods Don’t Bleed.
I hate Tricked and I’ll probably bury this album for my own sake. Another rapper starts talking anti-vax **** and I’m going full time jazz.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread
Yeah, Gibbs was spitting that ish too. I like these rappers too much to shelve them so for me it's eat the meat and spit out the bones. I ain't gonna act like it's any different than these married men rapping about bagging chicks and broke rappers talking about how they're getting money.[NYK|DAL|VT]

Man I was just thinking about Gibbs, I know he’s with the Nation. This kinda stuff breaks my brain. I didn’t care for Royce until Prhyme so I can take the Black Thought verse off of Wishin II and toss him in the recycle bin. To put that skit in front of Black Savage AND to ruin Conway’s verse on FUBU is just unforgivable. Gibbs would definitely be tougher for me.
Need Tana Talk 4 ASAP. Benny would never.Originally posted by G PericoIf I ain't got it, then I gotta take it

Don’t know why but for some reason, I thought you were all 100% conscious rap only.#RespectTheCultureComment

“I love promoting elevation in the space that all my brothers at
Now why I’m lying, I be turned up to these mumble raps” - Boogie
I just love beats too much. I need equal parts Kendrick eloquence and Key Glock energy to make it through the day. The bass on I’m Just Sayin is just too good.
Conscious albums tend to stay with me longer, maybe because they’re so few and far between, I still think about Drogas Waves. But my most played songs every year are trap and r&b dominated mostly.

Gunna might the the only Atlanta rapper that I’ve ever listened to from there whose verses will put me to sleep real quick and that’s sad.#RespectTheCultureComment
