I think the album is okay. Subpar lyrics (which I expected) Kanye outshines Jay, but I figured that. The beats are decent, but nothing is making me wan to rewind and listen to it over and over. I wasn't expecting much, so I got about what I expected.

Thanks for those who supplied links.

Yeah I wasnt expecting anything revolutionary. Its alright.

Jay Z is lame to me so that may have skewed my perception a little. I just couldnt stand hearing his voice at all. Oh well. I cant wait for Kanye's next solo album.

Youtube cant take these songs down fast enough. So far my favorites are Otis and Gotta Have It.

I got two albums today, and am not listening to either until this weekend. Figure some new music will help me get through the 5-6 hour drive home if I decide not to take the train (likely).

I'm not going to interrupt the Kanye and Jay show, but this also dropped...

          Spoiler

Only 11 tracks, but he's in my top three so I'm just as interested in hearing this despite the length and lack of hype.

Back to the regularly scheduled program...

Thanks for letting me know about that one, Streets. Never heard a Royce solo project (only ever heard him in Bad Meets Evil and songs with Eminem and them), so I'm excited to listen to this one.

Not feeling Watch the Throne. Just not liking either Ye or Jay-Z so much anymore don't know why.

Also is Kanye required by some sponsorship to mention Ethiopia at least once an album or something?

Hahaha! I hadn't heard it, but I'm not surprised if it's in there. Obviously, it's not a highly lyrical album, but it's good, solid music. I would still prefer their solo projects.

Jay-z is meh on there, but Kanye once again is excellent, and some of the beats are the best I have heard in a long time.

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread

the fact that two supposed rap juggernauts made the song "Lift Off" .... is possibly the single most embarrassing thing to ever happen to hip hop.

Kanye literally just mumbles some jibberish, when his voice isn't shaking and yelling random words. Jay Z barely finishes 8 bars of crappy rhymes.

Then Beyonce sings the same 2 lines for 3 minutes. Insert cheesy space shuttle lift off sample. Cut and print.

                    christ

Interesting to read Hovas quotes on how it took them three tries to make this album, how him and Ye got into arguments about the direction and sound of everything, and how he was "hesitant" to release HAM way back when, b/c he presumably just wasn't feeling it that much

also once you realize they jacked (sampled heavily) the Flux Pavilion and Cassius tracks its just makes you go WTF were they doing...

then again I hated MBDTF - hated it - and this has that sound to it also kind of.

neither of these dudes has produced anything with any replay value since Late Registration/Black Album days - plus a few tracks from Graduation

also, go cop that Royce "Success Is Certain" - he's a beast.

About that new Royce album. Worst solo project Royce has ever released. Just my opinion of course.

I'm really feeling the Watch The Throne project. Lyrically its not going to blow you away. Nothing special in that regard. But at the same time I don't feel that was the intent. I'm really not seeing how people are putting down Kanye or Jay on this either.

I feel both Jay and Kanye did their thing. Sure the subject matter isn't ground breaking. But they both do it better than everyone else making these kind of records. I've listened to the album 5 times now and it gets better each time.

Musically very few hip hop projects that have been released this year can touch this. This isn't iPod music. This is meant to be experience at a high volume.

                          Stand out tracks for me.

No Church In The Wild (Frank Ocean held his own and nice to see Jay and Kanye play up the Illuminati nonsense)

                          *****s In Paris

The Joy (Pete Rock enough said)

                          Primetime

Who Gonna Stop me(That beat is silly)

New Day(RZA laced this one and like the message here)

Why I Love You(Beanie Sigel gets roasted on this one. Jay speaking some truth on this one)

Only tracks I skip are Otis , H.A.M and Lift Off.

Great production turned in by RZA , Pete Rock , Swizz , Kanye , Q-Tip and everyone else who contributed. Everyone stepped their game up.

Album of the year for me.

The beats and hooks on the Royce album were very meh though...his lyricism will always be there...which is what I expect from him...but theres alot to be desired in other areas...

Made In America and Why I love You are the only tricks that I can't pick apart to death and hate on. And even then, they jacked the beat for Why I Love You, and Kanye has that gross line "old folks tell you not to play in traffic" in MIA - with that stupid voice on the last word like it's a tough/dope line or something LMAO

Everything else has inexcusable flaws or just flat out sucks.

The album as a whole is incredibly bland and boring and FEELS like it was made by two people who are doing this as a hobby and just for the hell of it. Hova isn't even trying and 'Ye just doesn't have the talent. Too much singing, too much auto tune (any is too much), too many 2, 4, 8 bar snippets of rapping, too many pointless rhymes about France and expensive man purses.

                              yes mad
