The album as a whole is incredibly bland and boring and FEELS like it was made by two people who are doing this as a hobby and just for the hell of it. Hova isn't even trying and 'Ye just doesn't have the talent. Too much singing, too much auto tune (any is too much), too many 2, 4, 8 bar snippets of rapping, too many pointless rhymes about France and expensive man purses.

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread

Watch the Throne was really bad. There is 2 great songs (Murder for excellence, New Day) but the rest is horrible. Production is out of place, almost seems like Kanye was trying to do dubstep. And there's no lyrical depth at all. Blahhhh.

The only person Watching the Throne is Nas. Haha. Jay Z continues to fall behind.

Royce disappointed me with Success is Certain. Legendary, Security, and Second Place are alright. But even on those tracks, he's not the same. He's not really rapping anymore, it seems like he's pausing too much, and there isn't much depth to what he's saying. Bad Meets Evil was the same way. Shame though, because when Royce wants to, he is one of the best alive.

Beantown, download Royce's old stuff, Death is Certain, The Bar Exam mistakes. He is a great MC but Bad Meets Evil and Success is Certain are the two worst things he has ever done.

Bad Meets Evil flopped, Watch the Throne flopped....but now I look ahead to Nas and Common's new solo albums coming out in November, and you know those are going to be good.

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread

No hate at all to anyone who was critical of WTT, but honestly, especially to NC State, why would you pick the thing apart? You're holding and comparing it to a standard that just it was never meant to follow.

We discuss mass appeal artists in this thread. I think everyone knows that by now. Like, we know what we're gonna get out of Wiz. Drake. Ross. Jay. Kanye. Wayne. There are only a handful of mass appeal rap artists/bands [Lupe, Nas, The Roots, etc. etc.] that should be held to a different standard. It just doesn't make sense for anyone to try and pick these guys apart, there is really no purpose.

Furthermore, it also seems like some of the critics in here may not even like Jay or Hov to begin with [or at least have not liked the direction they've been on recently]... which begs the question why even come in here to reply. I mean what's the point for me to go into the underground hip-hop thread and just rag on stuff in there. Correct me if I'm wrong, if you guys are fans or fringe fans then by all means your comments are completely justified. My thing is, if I'm not a fan of something to begin with, why would I go into a thread and pick it apart.

I'm not saying don't criticize, I'm just wondering why you're holding these guys to the standard you are, fully knowing where these guys are at at this point of their careers.

BTW I do think Jay's wordplay is pretty good on this. They may not spit the most bars but I really wasn't expecting them to at all. The replay value isn't there for me yet, except for like 3-4 tracks.

Re: Official Hip Hop/Rap Music Thread

I don`t think WTT is a classic or anything. but it`s pretty good. A lot of the beats are just ridiculous, Kanye and Jay have some nice lines and at times verses (can`t remember which songs exactly at the moment, but I think New Day was one in particular), and I`m dying to blast some of these songs through some loud *** speakers.

The album was never going to live up to the hype it received. That was pretty much a given and why I kept my expectations low. I`m happy with most of what I heard and I`ll gladly let this kill the wait between now and Sepetermber 27th when Cole World releases.

Also, might as well touch on the pink elephant in the room. NC makes some valid points, even though IMO it sounds like you care a little too much about an album from two artists you don't like. The only thing I find strange is complaining about the lyrics on a song called 'N**** in Paris'. What else do you expect from a song with a title like that?

LMAO at how ignorant this is.

excuse me for liking guys who can rap instead of Kanye literally mumbling jibberish on a track. Hova still has the talent but 'Ye has screwed him up - plus he just doesn't care anymore

If you want to just take the music for what it is and enjoy it - cool. Thats good for you. I won't hate on anyone for liking it, but I can't dig it. When people acting like the world about to shut down b/c the two of them are dropping an album together, I expect some dope tracks - on the level of the Diamonds rmx. I don't hear any though. They don't wanna rap anymore.

I'll go back to listening to Royce 5'9 and Joe Budden rip beats apart - and they aren't rapping about ******* telekinesis either.

Just so you know, people I'm feeling right now: Drake, Royce, Budden, J Cole, Skyzoo, Dirt Diggler, Adele..

also I used to think Jay Z was the GOAT after Black Album. And Kanye was one of my top 5 alive through Graduation. But when I listen to WTT I hear shortcuts taken, no interest in actual rapping, poor use of autotune, and mostly a lot of bland songs that sound the same

JMO...cry about it and accuse me of being a Deep Moses fan some more LOL.
