Real solid episode.

A thought occured to me during it though...

Am I the only one who finds Ted the least interesting thing about the show?

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate him or mind how so much of it revolves around him but he's in my opinion the weakest link. Maybe for the exception of "Seinfeld", it's the only show I can remember centered squarely around the least interesting character of a strong ensemble.

It pretty much goes to the fact that all the other characters developed a following with the show's fans. And Ted's character really developed to him being the most popular like Barney or Marshall. Since the show is about him telling his kids how he met their mother, I think the show stretched to different stories with the other characters and that's how they became likeable.

I think everyone like Ted the least of the guys, but I still think he needs to be the main character to have the contrast between the main characters. With Marshall as the main character, you have two single guys who have sex with a lot of women. With Barney, you have two guys who want to be married. With Barney or Marshall as main characters, they'd get boring too. Ted is by far the most dynamic character of the show.

With Marshall as the main character, you have two single guys who have sex with a lot of women. With Barney, you have two guys who want to be married. With Barney or Marshall as main characters, they'd get boring too. Ted is by far the most dynamic character of the show.

Yeah, and Ted can be cool at times (he was great with Victoria, for instance)...he needs to be the focus so everyone else can contribute their parts. If it's the Barney show or Marshall show then they lose what makes them so funny....

It's such a well wrote, highly structured show, That I'm sure if they had to they could switch the shows focus.

Not that they need to right now.

Just strange that it got to this point where the "main" character is the least interesting of the established characters. They know it, we know it. No bigee.

I really doubt it. I think they could do a few episodes about Marshall and Lily (since they pretty much already do that), but as a whole, Ted is the main character, and the story is about him.

Barney as the main character would just not be good. How awesome would the episode with Lily moving in be if we'd seen his apartment 50 times before? He has to remain at least somewhat mysterious. At least half of the comedy with him is the ridiculous things that we either don't see or see for the first time.

We all already know Stella is not the mother, Ted has said it on numerous episodes that she is not.

In the episode descrpition for the next one it says Tony helps Ted get a job so perhaps that job leads to meeting the mom. Also the week after that is Ted's bday so I would guess that's where the goat comes in.

solid episode tonight. good balance of slapstick and story. i noticed they havent pushed robin/barney angle towards the finale...thank god. Im more interested on teds storyline anyways

Agreed. I like Ted when he's being real and not a total arrogant douche. The murderhouse thing was awesome.
