    Re: The Dark Knight Rises

Lol... yah, how Bruce got back to Gotham should definitely be explained I mean, the rest of the trilogy is so realistic, what with a guy dressing like a bat taking on multiple enemies every night, jumping from buildings and parasailing with his cape, getting shot at constantly but never actually being shot, all while being aided by none other than his 80 year old butler.

While we're at it, everyone loves the sweeping panoramic of Batman standing on an impossibly high ledge overlooking the city... sure it's cool, but how did he get up there? And WHY is he up there? Maybe Nolan should go back and edit in 15 min sequences showing Bruce clumsily make his pointless ascent.

These are movies, from comics, built around an already unrealistic premise. You can't pick and choose what things should be explained, and what things shouldn't. If you're going to do that, then the whole damn concept is a disaster.

Enjoy the trilogy for what it is; a slightly more realistic and epic feeling take on a completely unfeasible fantasy. Bruce Wayne gets to do something no one ever could in real life, and that's what makes watching it all so enjoyable. And, part of that enjoyment is accepting that certain things just happen because they need to.

The premise doesn't excuse poor writing/editing.

I'm half lost. Are you unnerved that Bruce illogically was able to get his way back into Gotham, or the exact way he went about it wasn't explained?

Basically, if Nolan came out in an interview tomorrow answering how he actually found his way back into Gotham, would you be okay with that? Or is it something more along the lines with it not being canonized in the film, and it would have been better for the film's sake in general?

Very poor writing and to be honest, so out of place compared to the other movies. The first two it was from him perspective 99% of the time. In rises, he was doings as if he was a stranger to the audience (ie getting back into Gotham, the last fire bat symbol, his escape from the bomb). It just seemed like such a half assed finale. I know he's batman and he's supposed to do things out of the normalcy, but at least in the first 2 movies we got to be a part of him growing to become batman

True, maybe Batman should've jumped out of out of his plane and used some new unexplained powers to fly back to Gotham....or used some super strength to throw the bomb hundreds of miles away....fair game right? Let's suspend put belief, he's a superhero.

That logic doesn't make much sense to me..

I think what's more in question is the writing/editing choices....not the realism of the situation, I think we all know it's a movie about a superhero....like I said, I was looking forward to seeing how Bruce would get back to Gotham, and penetrate Banes defenses...to just see him there threw me off...still enjoyed the movie...that sequence just felt rushed..

I'm pretty sure when Selena says there's no way out of here. Bruce tells her a way... Or did I mix that up?

I'm not "unnerved" by that scene but it is a part of the poor writing throughout the movie. It didn't make any sense for Nolan to emphasize Bruce having no money, being alone, and the prison being so far away only for all of that to be thrown away once he got out. If Nolan explained what happened, that wouldn't change the fact that the sequence was either horribly written or edited.

I don't own any of the previous films. Do the Blu-Rays have extended cuts?

I wonder if maybe Nolan had to cut a scene for time and figured people would just accept it.

None of his movies have deleted scenes as far as I can tell.

A lot of the problems stem from the fact that its painfully obvious the original scope of this film far exceeds the final product.

He was never shown having any connections in random unnamed countries. There's also the fact that he had no idea where he was and no way of contacting anyone in the middle of a desert.

Again, I can't defend most of this issue in the film, but he was right outside of some town. In the shot when he's actually running from the Pit, you can see buildings a few miles away. Not like it's Dubai or anything, but there are possibilities around there.

At the same time, it does make me wonder how serious plot holes evade being omitted from massive films like this. I'm not necessarily calling this a plot hole, but shouldn't there be a point where some cast or crew member read this part of the script and say: "Wait... how does Bruce get back into Gotham?"

Oh ok, I've only seen it once and had forgotten about the buildings. There must've been an issue with how long the movie was because it's weird following The Dark Knight when he made a point to show how Bruce was going to get out of China with Lao but in this he just skipped over how Bruce would get back to Gotham when he had far less resources.
