Just got back. What a long day, and I have to wake up in 90 minutes for work so I'm not really going to leave impressions.

However, I saw an IMAX screening, and I have to say it was the best cinematic experience I've ever had! The movie was very, very good... and what a spectacular finish. Definitely not without its backlashes, but there will be more breakdowns to come. In time.

I felt this movie transcended comic book movies on a equal level to TDK.

My only complaint is the flash forward time-wise from TDK. It creates some logic sticking points.

Agreed. Maybe I need to see it again, but for the most part I'm surprisingly underwhelmed at this movie. While a beautiful film, I think this film could've benefitted from an extra 20 mins or so of runtime.

I don't think that it needed extra time, it needed better editing.

Loved it, my favorite of the 3. I wouldn't argue with anyone saying the 2nd is better, I just find it exhausting to watch because of how dark it is.

Just purchased two tickets for myself and the wife for 945am tomorrow, lol. I'm HOPING it won't be quite as packed.. plus, they were only $6 a piece.

Caught a midnight showing on a whim and could not be happier with the decision to do so. Thoroughly impressed with this movie across the board. Absolutely loved the cast, everyone did a phenomenal job. Anne Hathaway crushed her role as Cat Woman, Joseph Gordon Levitt is building a resume quickly, and while he may be type casted as the "side kick" type, it's giving him a great opportunity to work in some heavy hitters. I'm generally luke warm about Christian Bale but I feel like he brought a great Bruce Wayne/Batman to the table.

Bane clearly wasn't as strong of a character as Heath Ledger's Joker, but realistically what could be? It's unfair to compare the two, and I believe that the overall movie was at the very least as good as the prior Batman films, if not better. I'm THRILLED that they didn't try to hyper-develop Levitt's character into Robin in one film, and instead used it as an introductory piece to the character. Wise move, far too many times movies try to squeeze in things that need to be properly developed, and Nolan gave a solid ground for Levitt to build the character from.

Having watched only one trailer for this movie, I was unsure what the plot direction was going to be. It was highly difficult to stay away from the media hype, but having done so, I was pleasantly surprised with the developments throughout the film. I had a hunch Levitt was going to develop into Robin, but as the movie progressed I wasn't sure if he was going to take the reigns as the next "Batman" (with Wayne aging and degenerating it had a Batman Beyond vibe to it) perhaps, or was solely there as a representation of the power of a average person and nothing past that. The ending was fantastic in that sense, being unsure what the end game was whether Batman did give the ultimate sacrifice and died or not.

I think the ending makes a great deal of sense. Bruce wasn't afraid of dying throughout the film, and that was hammered repeatedly. He was ready to be Batman one more time to lay it all on the line and try to save Gotham. 8 years as a recluse in a time of peace, left with the pieces of Rachel's death and having to be the villain of Gotham despite him being the complete opposite, clearly drained the desire out of him. He wasn't afraid of death because he wasn't living and he didn't feel needed. Somewhere in the film, presumably the pit, the switch was flipped. He realized Gotham needed him, needed Batman, needed someone to be there. Even if there's a stretch of peace, the unknown still lurks. Once he returns to Gotham, he was clearly ready to be a fully invested Batman again, and while it's a small detail the fact that he even cared to fix the autopilot on the "bat" showed he was back to giving 110% and stopped being careless. Randomly trusting Cat Woman to lead him directly to Bane was very carless and un-Batman like imo. Also not getting the pieces figured out when Cat Woman gnabbed his prints and losing everything. Bruce Wayne/Batman's strength isn't supernatural, it's his cunning and intelligence, and he was one step behind through the 1st portion of the movie.

The idea was to show that Bruce Wayne started the movie as a man who didn't care about anything and was prepared to die without fear of it. Bane wanted to break Bruce Wayne and force him to watch Gotham fall apart while he could do nothing about it, but instead it resurrected his passion that he needed to live in order to protect his city, Gotham. Thus, he became afraid to die because he had to live in order to be that guardian. The fact he used auto pilot runs congruent with the point of the movie, he isn't ready to die and is committed to be Batman, not contrarian

Everything falling into place as the movie came to a close was sweet triumph. Nolan was in a tough spot having to follow up The Dark Knight, but he managed to top it in my book (though Heath Ledger's Joker is the most memorable chapter in the trilogy by far). Sorry it's a bit lengthy but as a huge Batman fan have a great deal of thoughts on this film and on the 3 hours of sleep + coffee I'm on it's just running a bit. Look forward to chopping it up with you guys as more discuss this movie.
