Feel the same way, debating seeing it again. Depends on if the misses is just as hyped as I am about it. What a movie.

This is what my mindset has been this week:

My excitement level is much more subdued compared to BB and TDK probably because I know this is "The End." Still, I am eagerly looking forward to the next incarnation of Bats and his universe because while this series has been amazing, there's still some character problems I have with the series. Bruce Wayne has been great and I feel like this series is really about him and not about "Batman." With the success of Marvel Studios I feel like WB will try to model the films more closely to the comics on some things (ie: Batmobile, Batcave, back stories, random side characters). Hopefully they don't approach the next film intending to do another origin tale.

I would have loved to have seen the original/intended story for the third film as no doubt I'm sure they were wanting Heath to reprise his role in someway.

I've already made plans to see this Saturday morning and Sunday night. Not sure which will be more crowded.

I have tickets to see it in IMAX tomorrow afternoon, but I'm still tempted to go to an afternoon showing by myself today. Will probably wait and, depending on how the IMAX viewing goes, I'll probably see it one or two times next week.

I'll see it at least 3 times this upcoming week.

I saw it last night and I didn't think it was as good as TDK either. It was still good, though. I had tickets to the Marathon showing so I got there to see the last quarter of BB, then the entire TDK right before it and that sort of set the bar unreasonably high for me.

This, unsurprisingly, follows along with the more about Bruce and the people of Gotham than Batman theme as the first two did...and Bale turns in my favorite performance of the three movies of his.

I do agree - there is a lot of Batman material and characters and stories that the next series of Batman movies can do. I certainly hope they don't go the origin route (you want to have flashbacks to the parents murder be my guest, you need to in most Batman movies), Bruce needs to be Batman from the beginning. No one will top the origin story of Batman Begins, imo, so they might as well skip it.

One thing that has disappointed me as a Batman guy is the lack of reconnect to his parents. In the first movie it halfway worked: Papa Wayne was great and that theme was a great basis to Bruce's dedication. Martha Wayne was just a set piece like most of the female characters have been. TDK never really touched back to that base. After Rachel's death I felt like a grave visiting scene would have really propelled Bruce's dedication, but also his despair that he is somewhat alone (but not really) in this thing he has created.

Of course TDKR could solve that, but that's always something that I felt has been powerful is when Bats makes those trips to the crypt as a kind of confirmation and re-dedication of his job.

Yup - there's a lot that Nolan and company left out to keep their Gotham City grounded in reality and everything. It's an incredible trilogy (beats out LOTR for my favorite ever, sorry Star Wars), but I'm not worried about future iterations of Batman as people seem to be.

WB has now seen how much ****ing money these characters and stories can make when they're real good movies and I doubt they'll turn the franchise over to someone who will ruin everything.

There are a LOT of characters and stories that the next crew can touch on and a lot of characters/stories that they can work into their next version. The only problem is who is going to want to follow-up some of these performances. It'll be interesting, that's for sure.

A lot that's been mentioned didn't really bother me. Very valid points, but I try not to over analyze things.

I think my formulated thoughts now lead me to this conclusion:

It's a good, solid superhero movie. It did not live up to my expectations. I'd give it about a 7.

Really though, it was going to be impossible for them to follow up on TDK.

                          Re: The Dark Knight Rises

I thought the first half was so-so, but the second half was phenomenal. While jmood critiques are definitely valid, I didn't really want to overanalzye things too much. Going in, I had so much hype for this movie but I think it actually helped that I saw the first two in a double feature beforehand. Watching TDK, nothing was going to top it. Heath Ledger was absolutely brilliant, the story worked on so many different levels, and there was never a dull moment. As I watched it in the theatre before Rises, I realized that nothing was going to top it...and I was right.

I loved The Dark Knight Rises, and I think it's a great conclusion to the end of the story. At the end of the day, we have two great movies and one spectacular movie in one trilogy that all tie together at the end. Superb.

Side note, seeing The Hobbit preview beforehand, I couldn't help but think that every character looked like Freakshow from Harold and Kumar.

I got the election comedy and Man of Steel before ours.

They were both teaser-length, like 30 seconds. Wasn't a regular viewing is probably why, started at 7pm run by my local comic shop.
