I don't know if this comes more as a retroactive TDK flaw or a TDKR flaw, but take away Rachel, Dent, and Loeb's deaths, I don't think TDKR has any other real necessary tie-ins with TDK, which is kind of strange. It makes TDK really become a true "standalone film," in a way.

SpoilerI would think without that then there's no way Bane gets into the sewers and builds an HQ and rigs multiple points with explosives.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises
SpoilerThat and the Dent Act, of course.
Bane got city construction plans from Daggett, anyway. I'm sure would have found a way to do this simply by Daggett flushing Bruce out of Wayne Enterprises, Batman or no Batman. I don't yet know if he would have burned through R&D money on the fusion reactor had he retired from being Batman, though. I just don't know if they're connected.
My point was more like... if you watch Batman Begins, then have somebody tell you some pertinent information on The Dark Knight, you're not missing many beats by Nolan paying homage to TDK that much with lines, scene flashbacks, etc.
Actually, there is one that I'm thinking of that they do bring up, though they go into pretty gory detail about it:
SpoilerWhen Alfred reveals to Bruce that Rachel wrote that letter to him and he burned it. But then again, I can tie that all in as a sum of "Rachel's death."
Simply put, I don't think anyone should go to this film having not seen BB. I can't say the exact same for TDK, though I simply think that's a film that can't go unseen anyway.Last edited by Blzer; 07-23-2012, 06:00 PM.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: The Dark Knight Rises
The more it's had time to sink it, the more I want to see this again. My wife and I watched the first two again yesterday, and I can honestly say this is right up there with TDK for me. Ledger's Joker still puts out the best performance, but Hardy as Bane was so powerful and intimidating. This was actually my wife's favorite of three. Great storytelling, great acting, and a great score. And honestly, I lot of the things some of you didn't like (flashbacks), I thought were very well done.
Just a phenomenal movie IMO, and my favorite trilogy ever.
SpoilerI wanted Black Mask from the beginning as he would have been the perfect villain for a No Man's Land like Gotham. Instead I feel they somewhat achieved the No Man's Land Gotham but failed on the why they achieved it. Like mentioned why did we wait 5 months for the timer to go down when the trigger could have been pressed right away? Bane mentioned about making Batman suffer while he was crippled and watch his Gotham suffer but it just doesn't seem the League way. If Ra's was in charge he would have pulled the trigger as soon as the Bat was down. This is my only gripe with the movie other then the voice but I can overlook both. Especially once the movie hits BR and I can turn on subs.SpoilerIn the Batman Begins thread we had years ago I kept tossing around the idea of Penguin or Black Mask being the finally baddies since they would fit so well in the mob storyline. It would of been cool to see how Nolan would write Penguin and what he would look like. Ultimately, Black Mask would of worked better.
I think that Fresh also had a good idea, why not break this film up into two parts? That would of been awesome and could left everyone with a hookSpoilerThe Breaking of the BatComment

Re: The Dark Knight Rises
One little thing that I am not smart enough to figure out from the intro/prologue.
SpoilerWhen they are about to get onto the plane with the Doctor Bane tells one of his men that the need to have one of his men in the wreckage. Was that simply to make sure they knew Bane was the one who did it? I missed that completely.Comment

Re: The Dark Knight Rises
Pretty much agree with those feelings as well.
I do wonder why everyone seems so concerned with...
SpoilerHow Bruce gets from the Pit back to Gotham. It took him, what, 22 days or something to get back? I don't get why the "HOW" matters so much with that?
None of the time lapses bothered me at all, though, so maybe that's just me.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

I didn't get the point of Pavel's blood transfusion or whatever Bane was doing with him.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises
Well saw the film and while I found it enjoyable, o can't say it was amazing or lived up to the hype. I'd prob give it an 8/10. It was great filmaking all around, don't get me wrong, but I just wasnt blown away or anything.. Not like when I saw Gladiator, the ending, build up, fight scenes were awesome.. I would say Rise of planet of the Apes was a bit more enjoyable than DKR.
Couple questions about DKR...
SpoilerWhat was up w the blood transfusion during the prologue? Why did they need the Scientist if they were just gonna kill him? They coulda just let him crash. Was Talia planning on killing herself along w Gotham City? Seemed like it. That prison pit...Kind of ridiculous how a 10 yr old girl was able to jump to that ledge, but Bruce Wayne aka Batman couldn't..smh.Comment

As for Bruce, it was explained that the rope held people back. Even the subconscious knowledge that you could fall to safety makes them less motivated to go all out on their jump. Even as the prisoner told Bruce: push-ups won't get him out of the pit. The point was the same point that Ra's made in Batman Begins. "The training is nothing! The will is everything! The will to act."
SpoilerI thought he said "Don't call it in," because he wanted to harvest three men "illegally" and dump two of them, not telling Langley or whomever he would report to.
I could be totally wrong, though. I only saw it back during the midnight showing, and I had trouble hearing/remembering bits of dialogue at times. I gotta see this again!

Re: The Dark Knight Rises
One thing really bothered me.
SpoilerBane bursts into the stock market, causes trouble, and the next day Wayne's entire fortune is gone on some risky trades. Lucius even says they could claim fraud but that a reversal would take a while, but in the end Wayne Corp. is still bankrupt? Really? They didn't think something was up when Bane fiddled with the computer and then Wayne had suddenly made a whole bunch of crazy trades the same day? The SEC didn't reverse something that was obviously a scheme by this guy who launched a wave of terrorism against Gotham?Last edited by bad_philanthropy; 07-23-2012, 08:43 PM.Comment

Re: The Dark Knight Rises
Spoiler
That's what I took away from it, but once they matched his DNA wouldn't they be able to tell that wasn't him? I mean, Bane made the CIA look pretty inept, but I hope HQ isn't that inept.
Anyway, they didn't let him die in the plane because he had to arm the bomb.
