I have center ice and NFL. At some point of the year my bill is really high, but I love both. MLB and NBA can wait.

They had plans to create something similar about a year ago but those plans have been scrapped.

If anybody has any direct related questions, let me know. DIRECTV is tied tightly to my job so I am well versed.

          just to add to this-
this is my first year with direct tv. one question. We have had 2 minor thunderstorms since i got it. And i mean minor (maybe 2 or 3 claps of thunder).
Each time the signal went out completely for the duration of the storm. Does this happen every fricken storm??

Sounds like you have a setup issue with your satellite.
I've only had DTV for 10 months, but I haven't had any issues...but I've heard about what your talking about. I've had several major storms come through and I never lost a signal till the power went out.

Once you have the satellite mounted down really good and pointing in the correct direction, you'll never have any problems.

If you pay the $5 a month maintenance fee (or whatever its called), DTV will send somebody out and fix it for you for "free" (not really free since you pay for it every month).

                Re: DIRECTV

We would need to know all your signals. I never lose 101, but lately I've had some issues on HD, but that's because I was rearranging some stuff around my pole install and I noticed the ground moved some. The MPEG4 satellites are 99 and 103, these have all the HD stations, locals included. That beam is small, so if it moves any or is not 90 or above, you could lose the signal. It also matters where the storm is and where is is going.

                  Okay...

I really miss not having the NFL Sunday Ticket (it's been two or three years now)So, I think I am going to go with the 200 digital channel package for $54.99 for the first 12 months. I get free HD DVR and for the other two rooms, it's only $5 bucks a box.

I am going to cancel with Time Warner and just keep Road Runner internet.

                    Re: DIRECTV

Tell them you want a SWM (Swim) line install. Only 1 line is needed to each DVR. You can also network your DVRs now, and through the free beta testing program, you can access any recorded program from any HD DVR that is networked.

We never made the switch, but as football season gets closer I'm thinking about it again.

Looks like there is a package for $34.99 forlike 200 channels. Free HDD DVR box, another free HDD box and of course a free stadard box. I see there's a $5.99 monthly fee incase equipment gets damaged etc... Also looking, you have to pay an extra fee for your remote controls? Is it a one time fee or mothly or is It just for special remotes?

Wife is alll in as long as we can keep our monthly cost about the same as time Warner (we pay like $130 for digital cable and Internet). So Im getting close to making the call. Is there any other fees and it's a 2 year contract?

                        Re: DIRECTV

There is a lease fee for each box, with the package, 1 is free. Also $10 HD Access fee and $7 DVR fee, but those are also included in the package. Don't know which package you are talking about though because that is a discounted price.

There is a protection plan fee, but I wouldn't pay that. The receivers are leased, so you shouldn't ever have to pay anything to replace them, you don't own them. It would protect the dish though if it was struck by lighting or was moved.

                        Primary Leased Receiver -5.00 Credit

You can also get $5-10 credit for your phone service, but it depends on who you have.

Also, there will be a $2-3 fee for MRV (Multi-room viewing. Hold off until May and you should be able to get the DECA included in your install. It will allow you to network the receivers to the internet through your tv wiring. You can watch recorded shows on the regular HD receiver that you recorded on the HD DVR.

                          Not sure.

I just saw a $34.99 package. Then when I went to check out it had the three
months free showtime/stars or whatever the package was. Then it asked me what receivers I wanted. I chose the hdd dvr for free then it went to receiver #2. I could pay $99 for another hdd dvr or get an HD receiver for free and then my third receiver was the standard one.

I asked about the remotes because I clicked on the remote control section and there was pricing. I'm guessing that's for special remote controls?

                          Which package do you have?

I have the same package as the one you are talking about, 200+ channels. Mine is an older package though, so it is a little cheaper and has HD and DVR fee included.

Remotes are free unless you want more than 1 per receiver.

I work for DISH and they are definitely cheaper than DIRECTV especially with the current promotion.
Yes DISH does not have Sunday Ticket but that's because we don't want to charge $300 like DIRECTV is...for all that you can get NFL REDZONE for $5.99 per month....granted it's not the same thing but it's a hell of alot cheaper.

Dook, we're moving soon. I ordered the package off the website that gives you 1 HD DVR box for free, 1 HD Box, and I got 2 regular boxes for free. Ordered the Premier package. Like you, we're switching from Time Warner and I pay about $140 for cable and internet at my apt. I have HD DVR and 1 HD receiver. Tired of TW, more expensive than any of them. we'll probably keep TW cable internet though.
