I liked it a lot. Lots of potential for future story there. Good stuff. Not as bad as all the reviews lead you to believe.

I haven't read any of the reviews (never have read any reviews for TV) so I'm not sure what they didn't like. I really enjoyed the episode. The main thing I was concerned about before watching was a continuing story which would connect each episode and the characters together. Since Eliza is essentially a different character every episode and has a different "engagement" every episode, I was concerned with how much wiggle room there would be for a continuing story arc throughout all the episodes. I must say, the first episode did a great job of laying the ground work for a handful of storylines/conflicts throughout the season which will be interesting to see play out.

It will be interesting to see who that was in the last scene.

Agreed, There was just enough there to let the episodes be stand alone, but with enough grondwork to have an overarching story beyond. I do think that person in the last scene is the Alpha, i doubt its a coincidence they showed the file then cut to the mystery man.

It was an alright show. But this is coming from someone who doesn't watch any of these types of shows, saw one episode of Buffy and none of OC, charmed, etc...Only reason I watched is becuase of how hot Eliza is, and although I wouldn't dvr it, if it's on when I'm flipping through channels, I'd watch it for sure.

Re: Whedon Fans Unite! The official Dollhouse thread

How do you compare this to OC?

Anyway, I thought it was a decent first episode. I've been waiting for this series, but a lot of reviews slammed it so I kinda walked in expecting a storyline that was either all over the place or stupid. Joss doesn't disappoint because the story was pretty much intact.

He does throw a lot of mystery in there. Echo at one point said something about a he or she not approving of her decision earlier in the episode. And I don't think they ever touched on who that was. That's one reason I like Whedon. He writes realistic dialogue.

Interesting information here. The original pilot titled "Echo" was tested and audiences felt it was too confusing and dark. So, Whedon decided to shoot a new pilot which was "Ghost" (the episode that premiered on Friday). He originally planned to have "Echo" be the second episode, but decided to scrap it altogether as he thought the pieces just didn't work.

What I find interesting about it is that the pilot episode had the following description:

Agent Ballard's investigation into the Dollhouse gains momentum when he gets a photo of Echo. Meanwhile Echo and some of the other Actives start to show signs of self-awareness, making Adelle and the handlers nervous.[3]

After watching on Friday, it seems that Whedon definitely went a new route with the series. Having the Actives become self-aware in the first episode was probably too much of a rush job and wouldn't have allowed him to introduce characters and the plot. I like what he did with the new pilot.

Also, I've only seen the first two seasons of Alias (darn Blockbuster doesn't seem to carry Season Three) and Echo being a different person every episode and having a handler is giving me that Alias vibe.

Not a bad show so far, I will wait for a few more episodes before really deciding if this show is something that I continue to watch.

The older that Dushku gets, the hotter she becomes. I just hope this show doesn't get canceled, if I were her, I would never work on a FOX show ever again. Tru Calling wasn't a bad show, yet FOX treated it like utter trash.

I agree...I like what I've seen, but I think it's a show that'll hit its stride after a few episodes...it's tough to really explain a completely new world like this in one ep. I like Dushku in this role though, and the show definitely has potential. I just hope Fox gives it enough of a chance to succeed.

Oh, and the commercials with Summer Glau and Dushku, damn lol

Unfortunately, the reason Dushku continues to work with FOX is because she has an exclusive development contract with them.

It's really the only reason Whedon is working with FOX again after vowing never to when they mishandled Firefly. He wanted to work with Eliza and she's tied into a contract with FOX.

Summer is a bit of a weird girl, no?

She just has this dead pan way of looking at the camera. It works for SOC, but during those marketing clips, she just looks awkward.

That description of the original pilot that Yankee put there sounds more like a summary of a season rather then the synopsis of the pilot. I'm glad Joss isn't rushing things, but I hope FOX doesn't F up another one of his shows.
