Whats funny is I don't think anyone has mentioned that they don't have a tv in their bedroom. Two years ago as a sophomore in college I went 12 months without a TV in my room, wasn't too bad but I definitely prefer having one since I have three other roommates and can watch what I want while resting or going to bed

I don't...and haven't since the dorm in college. Our normal sleep routine is to read and then turn off the lights. If we want to watch TV it's only 50 feet away.I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be. - Douglas Adams

When I'm at home, I don't have a TV in my bedroom because my TV is at school. Last year at school, my roommate and I didn't put a TV in our room because we wanted it to be for studying... we figured we had a TV in the living room we could watch if we wanted to... no need to have one in the bedroom. Well, second semester I was going through a time when things were going through my head constantly, and I was just thinking so much and it kept me awake. I had a few sleepless nights and a few night when I didn't get to bed until 3 or 4 in the morning. After I had enough of being tired, I actually started moving to the living room couch (which was quite uncomfortable) just so I could watch TV to go to bed. Eventually, I asked my roommate if it was OK if I moved the TV I had in the closet to the bedroom. I actually don't have a TV in my bedroom. I can fall asleep with a TV on, but I prefer not to. I like it to be dark and quiet. However on Saturday and Sunday afternoons there is nothing better than falling asleep on the couch with a golf tournament, a football game or a basketball game on the TV.PSN: Koolie_G

Off, and it drives me nuts, because my fiance claims she NEEDS it on to fall asleep. If I do turn it off before she's asleep, she does a puppyish whine just to keep me awake and to turn it back on. Drives me nuts.
I can fall asleep eventually with it on, but not as soon as i'd like. And when I get outta work at 11pm, don't get to bed until around midnight and have to be up with my son at 6-7 am, I want that crap off! :wink:Comment

Same. I tell my gf some BS about the TV dying faster because she wants to keep it on (only partiall BS). I'm convinced that people who need the TV on are afraid of the dark.
I had the worst roommate about this ever my last few months at Auburn.
Dude would only watch two movies, Lord of War and Narnia, but he'd leave them on every single night. And because both have really quiet and really loud scenes, he'd inevitably fall asleep with the volume really high on the really quiet scenes, so right when I was about to go to fall asleep, boom, a truck full of hand grenades is blown up at full volume.Comment

I had a professor who told me that sleeping with a TV on is horrible for your sleep quality. Even on mute, the waves of light, or something like that creeps into your brain and messes up the rest you get (He explained it better than I can).
Luckily for me, I am one of those people who need darkness and quiet to fall asleep. I sleep with a fan on high though, regardless of the weather, because I need the white noise to drown out any possible sound. And I have to have the door shut, lights off.
re: people afraid of the dark...
I think its either the scared of the dark thing, or the "i think too much" thing. Those are the primary two reasons I could see for leaving it on.Comment

I usually turn the sleep timer on for 30 minutes when I lay down and unless it's something really interesting I am out before it turns off.Comment
