Saw it last night in 3D/XD sound at Arundel Mills Mall in Maryland; braved the snowfall that started last night for the 11:30pm show. They have the glasses pictured above. I'll just say...
It was truly an experience.
It was my first movie theater 3D experience, so it may have spoiled me for other films. The storyline itself is pretty good, although nothing we haven't seen before. But man, the 3D visuals are something else. Went w/my girlfriend who wasn't interested in the movie but was very impressed at how immersive it was. After a while you forget that so much of it is CG. Have to give Cameron a ton of credit for having that type of vision; the imagination that went into creating Pandora, it's creatures, natives, etc. was extremely impressive. As good as the visuals were, the sound was just as amazing. There were times I could almost feel a blast because of the force of the bass. And with the 3D visuals the surround sound compliments it immensely - just an amazing experience. I didn't think there would be much of a market for the 3D televisions that they say are coming, but the movie really shows you the potential. If you have a chance to see it in 3D/hd sound, pay the extra $3-5. It's definitely worth it.
