    re: James Cameron's "Avatar"

Saw it last night in 3D/XD sound at Arundel Mills Mall in Maryland; braved the snowfall that started last night for the 11:30pm show. They have the glasses pictured above. I'll just say...

    It was truly an experience.

It was my first movie theater 3D experience, so it may have spoiled me for other films. The storyline itself is pretty good, although nothing we haven't seen before. But man, the 3D visuals are something else. Went w/my girlfriend who wasn't interested in the movie but was very impressed at how immersive it was. After a while you forget that so much of it is CG. Have to give Cameron a ton of credit for having that type of vision; the imagination that went into creating Pandora, it's creatures, natives, etc. was extremely impressive. As good as the visuals were, the sound was just as amazing. There were times I could almost feel a blast because of the force of the bass. And with the 3D visuals the surround sound compliments it immensely - just an amazing experience. I didn't think there would be much of a market for the 3D televisions that they say are coming, but the movie really shows you the potential. If you have a chance to see it in 3D/hd sound, pay the extra $3-5. It's definitely worth it.
HBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

Yeah the 3d is ridiculous. Before the movie came out I read about how Cameron kept experimenting to make it so that you can't even tell that a screen was there and he got it completely right. It really looked like you were just looking through a window and seeing things in action.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

Saw it in 3D last night. Not the best movie ever made, but one of them.

Saw it in 3D Gold Class last night and loved it!

The story and action sequences weren't the greatest but the overall experience of being in another world and seeing it all as if you were right there with them was simply breathtaking.

I will be telling everyone I know to go watch it in 3D because it truly is something special. It's gonna make 'regular' movies feel pretty boring from now on for sure.

          2 things as well:

          1. The CG was top class, probably the best ever created. No stutters, no weird out of place models, perfect animation, amazing camera work.

          2. With all the talk from TV manufacturers about pushing 3D tv's into people's homes of late, I can really see this movie being a big help in selling the product. If there were 3D games and movies that looked this good, I'd buy a new tv for sure.

I'll probably watch it again in a few days. Amazing experience!

Just got back from seeing it in 3D with this Nor Eastern storm we're having here, definitely worth the snow. Awesome movie. The CGI was amazing, and the 3D effects weren't bad.

Love the whole zoology of the movie though, Cam didn't just create people but a living world, it would be awesome if a sequel were to be made and they added even more of the animals and nature doing its thing.

              A- in my book

Surprise, surprise. Supposedly a trilogy is planned.

Yeah it's was amazing, truly a "cinematic experience" rather than just going to see a movie. Really glad i chose to see this in 3D, spend the extra money, it's totally worth it!

Is it just me or is the story basically
                  Spoiler

My cinema had a group of ushers at the door collecting the glasses so no-one could take them home, guess that's a bit different for what they do in the States.

One thing i noticed was that every preview was in 3d as well. Do you guys think that now Cameron has perfected this camera and technique that just about every movie will be filmed like this? I guess it's one way to stop (or perhaps just slow down) the video pirates who release the cam versions on the net within days of the proper releases.

Yep. Cameron said with good revenue a trilogy will be written.

He's also said that he's doing every movie in 3D from now on.

A trilogy? We will all be dead and buried by the time Cameron gets around to completing that. I wouldn't hold my breath on that happening anytime soon.

I get it, but Cameron was working on other projects between this film and Titanic. He's also mentioned before that the only reason it has taken him nearly 15 years to make Avatar is because he was waiting on technology to catch up with his idea.

                              That's no longer a problem.
