Saw the movie last night for the first time. Well worth the money for it to be seen in 3D. It will be interesting to see where the storylines go.

re: James Cameron's "Avatar"
AVATAR hits 1 BILLION in worldwide ticket sales....
http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2010/01/03...office-report/
only 4 other movies have even hit 1 billion, and none ever this fast. It took Titanic 11 weeks to hit 1 billion, and The Dark Knight needed a re-release after the theatrical run to get it by a hair.
It's funny how it took James Cameron to make the only real contender to the record Titanic set 12 years ago.Last edited by bkfount; 01-03-2010, 05:37 PM.Comment

re: James Cameron's "Avatar"
I went with the wife on New Years day to see this in IMax 3D. I loved every minute of this film! My wife even liked it too, & she never likes anything that I like. This is the best experience I've ever had watching a movie in theaters without a doubt!Comment

re: James Cameron's "Avatar"
This movie is absolutley killing it!
I went on release day and the theatre was only half full. A lady i work with went on sunday at 3pm and they got the last 2 tickets for that showing and they arrived half an hour before it started. Lines out the door etc at other showings.
At least this means the full series (its a trilogy isn't it?) should be getting made.Comment

re: James Cameron's "Avatar"
One thing though... (not sure if I mentioned it before), but fellow Aussie Sam Worthington who is getting good reviews for his role and also American accent was not that great. His accent was pretty bad (it slipped into his regular Aussie accent A LOT) and he was only real believable when screaming and shouting.
He's got a big future but I don't see him taking away roles from the big names just yet.
Which, IMO, is pretty realistic
I think he threw in the aussie accent to sound a bit more "macho". None of that high pitched Tom Cruise voice like a 14 year old kid stuff.Comment

That's the whole "subliminal sub plot"....one Aussie bloke takes on and defeats the entire US Marines.

Where did worthington come from anyway, don't remember seeing him on neighbours or home and away.
So he was cast in this role as basically a no name (ie before terminator salvation was released) and will now be known as the leading role in the most successful film of all time, not bad at all.Comment

re: James Cameron's "Avatar"
Personally, since he makes so few movies, I'd prefer he make a new franchise, but then again, with the possible exception of Godfather II and the Star Wars movies, he's probably made the two best sequels I've seen.Comment

I'm assuming one of those sequels you're referring to is Titanic 2?Lux y VeritasComment

You've clearly never seen Titanic 2.
One of the greatest of all time:

LMAO!! Bloody Aussies are taking over.

He's been in quite a few lower budget films. If I remember rightly, he was in Dirty Deeds with Brian Brown a while back.
Good story about him being told by NIDA that he had no future though...look who's laughing now
We do pretty well in Hollywood:
Russel Crowe
Heath Ledger
Eric Bana
Hugh Jackman
Nicole Kidman
Naomi Watts
Mel Gibson...nah, screw Mel... now he's gone nuts we'll call him a Yank
Most people I meet when I travel O/S a bit all are surprised when they learn all these actors are Australian. People just tend to presume all actors are American...which is a bit ironic as most of the best ones are Brits or AustralianComment

re: James Cameron's "Avatar"
People are going to think that when they don't use their normal accents in movies.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

re: James Cameron's "Avatar"
True Mood.
Though a lot of roles calls for accents that are kind of role specific and don't actually have an 'accent'...i.e. Heath Ledger as the Joker.
Sam Worthington's accent is pretty clearly Australian throughout most of Avatar...
Russel Crowe changes completely depending on the role...which is expected as he's a method actor. I'll be interested to hear how he sounds in Robin Hood, as he'll be a New Zealand born / Australian raised / American based actor...playing one of England's most famous figures. The accent will be interestingComment
