re: James Cameron's "Avatar"
So it did pretty good for a movie with subtitles and lots of dialogue.
I think Avatar's theater experience (at least for the people who saw it in 3D) will be remembered for quite some time. It was an epic visual feast. The whole world was amazing. Simply because the story was "unoriginal" or simple doesn't automatically make it a bad story. I liked the characters and the relationships between them. If other people don't like the movie, that's their prerogative and personally I could care less what they think of me just because I enjoyed it.

And as I said earlier, this will be remembered for a short while... but when the next movie with this kind of technological jump comes out and outshines it, Avatar will be lost in a heap of other movies that were revolutionary in the effects department before it. The reason that movies like The Matrix stand out more is because of the story (which Avatar slightly resembled), and this is indicative because of the majority opinion finding its sequels to be inferior, despite its visual upgrades. Reloaded and Revolutions will be left behind and the original will stay with us for a long time, because it had much more to capture for us than just great effects.
I still think this was a visually stunning experience and it thus far is probably the most embarking project I've ever seen, and it's just a shame that Cameron's efforts in the director's chair didn't get him an Oscar... but it's water over the bridge now, and in the coming years we will always be riveted with movies that deal with great intellect or great effects. Hell, they may have both. But the movies with great effects need a bit more if they want to stand out for the long haul, and I don't believe that Avatar will.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

re: James Cameron's "Avatar"
Maybe you're right, but until then Avatar will be the movie that other movies will be compared to as far as 3D implementation and CGI capabilities go. Personally I don't see that happening very soon, but simply looking at Avatar on a purely visual basis overlooks Cameron's vision and creation of an entire CGI world and characters that felt and looked real and alive. I thought the scope of the project itself was amazing and I don't see a lot of directors (much less studios giving directors the green light) undertaking such a massive creative effort.

It should take a while to make them though, maybe four years apart for both of them like the Jurassic Park movies. This world can wait for more Avatar, as this one will be enough to stay on people's minds for a while. I'm the same with a Batman sequel in that I can easily wait two more years because I'm still not over the greatness of TDK.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

James Cameron, King of DVD Sales
Well, so much for those fears that no one would want to see "Avatar" in 2D. James Cameron's "Avatar," which is already the most financially successful film of all time (it brought in over $2.7 billion at theaters worldwide) has now broken almost every record known to man in the home video market, too. "Avatar" sold 2.7 million high-definition Blu-ray discs -- along with 4 million standard definition DVDs -- in the first four days it was available.Comment

re: James Cameron's "Avatar"
no doubt I would prefer it in 3D, but the Blu Ray version is really well done. The first couple minutes it was strange not seeing it in 3D but once the movie got going I completely forgot about it.Lux y VeritasComment
