Watched Salt last night. I thought it was pretty good, and Angelina was looking fine.

I'm generally not tough on movies though so some of you tougher critics may not enjoy it.

Finished Repo-Men decent enough SC-FI flick with some good action and an interesting story, however the ending was quite a twist, sort of left me sad

Saw Daybreakers last night. I didnt think it would be good since it was about vampires and of course the main characters name was Edward but it was actually pretty good. A lot better than I thought it would.

Re: What movies have you seen recently? Part 1

Watched a pretty good western from 1954 called Silver Lode starring John Payne, Dan Duryea, Lizabeth Scott and Dolores Moran. The movie was a metaphor against McCarthyism like another (more famous) western High Noon. Anyways the former is quite good on its own. Here's the plot summary:

Dan Ballard,(John Payne) a respected citizen in the western town of Silver Lode, has his Fourth of July wedding interrupted by four men led by Ned McCanty, (Dan Duryea) an old acquaintance who, as a US Marshal, arrests Ballard for the murder of his brother and the theft of $20,000. Ballard seeks to stall McCanty while tracking down evidence that will prove his innocence: but the townspeople's loyalty to him gradually begins to waver under McCanty's accusations
As you can tell by the villain's name it's not exactly the most subtle parallel to McCarthyism. The movie does a great job of showing McCanty coming into town as a vengeful man of justice and at first he's met with fierce resistance but he uses eloquence and warping actual events as a means to win the townsfolk over to his side of the story. The way in which we see Ballard having everyone's support then slowly but surely losing said support through circumstance such finding out the wires had been cut on the telegraph line when he's trying to send a message to prove McCanty isn't what he says he is or the one event that turns EVERYONE against him when the sheriff finds out what's what but is killed by McCanty only to have McCanty warp the facts to make it look like Ballard did it.

You really get a sense of the desperation and seeing the townsfolk grow restless and frothing for a killing was a bit disturbing as all his "friends" have turned their backs on him except for an old flame played capably by Dolores Moran. Her character is bitter that Ballard is marrying the richest woman in the town but behind her snide remarks and smartassery there's a (get ready for a cliche) heart of gold and she does whatever she can to help Ballard such as helping him get info from one of McCanty's men to prove that he's indeed not a US Marshall. Lizabeth Scott as Payne's bride to be didn't have very much to do which is a bit of a shame as she was a fine actress.

Overall the movie has a lot of atmosphere and while the parallel to McCarthyism is hammered at you it doesn't ruin the movie. I give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.

The Breakfast Club - For some reason this movie just does not get old and it seems like every time I watch it, I can connect with a different character and really feel them. Not to mention all of the classic lines.

Sleeping Beauty - So, I have never seen this before all the way through, just bits and pieces in passing, but this is a great movie. First of all, the blu-ray transfer is amazing. Disney is really doing wonders with their old animated movies and its amazing how clear and vivid everything is. Secondly, I think modern Disney has lost a bit of its magic. I mean, it seemed like all the older animated movies had a couple of chilling/wickedly evil/trippy sequences that probably would have done wonders on me as a child. Maleficent is just evil. Plain and simple. Great movie.

This Is It - For just rehearsals, this "concert" dvd is spectacular. It is depressing realizing that this will never be performed by the only man that could pull it off because it seemed like it would have been, hands down, the greatest concert experience ever. MJ sounded great, danced great, looked a little skinny, but its just kind of depressing at the end. Great DVD. I rented it off Netflix and I'm gonna have to get the blu-ray I think. Oh and Orianthi (the female guitarist) - yowsa.

The Usual Suspects (again) ---- I still get taken back by the ending.... it still confuses the hell outta me. Maybe I'm reading too much into it.

My brother has just told me that he had recently watched the movie The Man From Earth, which is a very interesting movie. I'm gonna get this one. Has anyone here seen it? What did you think about it?

a few days ago I watched Dead Presidents, the first time I'd seen it was about three months ago. And that is a damn good movie. I had no idea what it was about before watching it the first time, but I thought it was just amazing. You just don't see movies like that these days.

I saw Salt and it was a disappointment. There was very little explanation for why any of the characters were doing what they were doing and the ending was horrible.

Do you really expect from a movie with Angelina Jolie to be deep and well written?

Just saw 'Facing the Giants'. Liked it. Definitely had a Remember the Titans feel to it. If you don't mind the religious overtones, most sports fans will enjoy it.

Few days ago I watched Hardball. Loved it. Keanu Reeves does a decent job, but the kids made the movie. Almost teared up near the end.

I watched Advertureland over the weekend and was pleasantry surprised. I was surprised that i didn't hate Kirsten Stewart as much as i though i would (even though i barely call what she does as acting) and it had some very funny moments. Ryan Reynolds had a nice role in it as well.
