Re: What movies have you seen recently? Part 1

The Lovely Bones - pretty creepy and emotional, great performances, very good movie

The Backup Plan - average, very average. Not really funny, not really dramatic, not really the usual fun, well done chick flick

Clash of the Titans - watched this in our hotel room on pay per view and regret paying for it. Terrible, terrible movie. Sam Worthington was good (minus the dodgy accent) in Avatar but looked like a random off the street who has never acted in his life in this one. The story was rushed, the editing sucked, the CG was years behind the competition, it didn't even have good action scenes. Percy Jackson was much better than this crap.

Twilight Eclipse - the Mrs loves the books so went along with her. I was not afraid to admit I enjoyed the first two movies. Never claimed them to be anything special, more like good episodes of tv shows, but fun and certainly not only for chicks. This third movie was along the same lines.
At times I was thinking, 'this is rushed amateur crap' due to the dodgy wig on Bella, the C grade camera angles (when Edward and Bella are lying on their bed and the camera is looking right up Bella's nose hairs...) and some directing and acting that could have used another few takes. But the story was decent with a couple surprising laughs and no matter how corny or how 'not in line with mythology' the vampires and wolves were, their action scenes were cool.
Didn't feel like a blockbuster movie again, like I keep saying, either a good straight to dvd movie or tv show but it's not junk.

Watched "One Hour Photo". Damn, not only was it creepy but pretty scary in it's believability.

Yeah it's a good one. The best horror movies for me are the ones that are actually believable and this one sure as hell is. I'm tempted to get my photo's printed at home because of this movie.

I did the same with Sex Drive. I had this on my Netflix queue forever and finally watched it with almost zero expectations. I thought it was hilarious. Seth Green was funny as hell as the amish guy who did favors for people and then made them feel bad lol.

I recently seen The Road and like it quite a bit. It is slow moving at the start but I enjoyed the father and son journey for survival while trying to maintain their humanity. I never read the novel but from what I hear it is alot more gruesome than the movie.

I've been meaning to add that to my Netflix list. Gotta watch The Crazies first though.

Add it! It is a great movie and has some intense moments. A few parts remind me of Behind Enemy Lines. Also if you played Fallout 3 the movie resembles it a lot, even more then The Book of Eli.

The Assasination of Jesse James. Watched it last night. Alot of people bombed on it but I liked it. I was a bit long but I like how they set the scenes up.

Lol yeah Seth Green's was hilarious. I watched the "unrated / uncut" version and they threw a bunch of naked women into a bunch of different parts of the movie (like an obvious photoshop type job it looked like) which was weird but pretty nice to see. Shame they threw some naked dudes in there as well.

That movie's in my top 5. It's just such an interesting character study of a guy who's obviously getting more insane by the day. Brad Pitt was great. Casey Affleck was great. Just a great movie.

I watched about 15-20 minutes of this movie. The director's last name sums up what I saw pretty well. The cover made the movie look pretty cool. I thought it would be one of those cheesy movies with awesome special effects or something, and I assumed it was some theatrical release. I mean, the cover is ****ing awesome - the squid submarine thing on it makes it look like it's going to have some top notch CGI or something.

Well as soon as the credits rolled, it was quite apparent that there was nothing of the sort. It looked immediately like it was filmed on some handicam with a waterproof cover. I knew I was in for disappointment right then and there. I managed about 15-20 minutes, as I said, and that all I could take. The special effects sucked, the acting sucked, and there was pretty much no hope of an interesting story. I fast forwarded through it a bit and stopped here and there and it seemed to get no better.

I can only assume this was straight to DVD. Why anyone would waste burning this onto a perfectly good DVD, though, is beyond me.

Final Verdict - Do Not Watch

Re: What movies have you seen recently? Part 1

I feel the need to now explain my reviews. I'll be posting the title and year, director, time, film rating, and then my rating of the film out of 5. The out of ten rating will be displayed with "" representing one point. If you see absolutely no popcorn smilies that means one of two things: I either did not manage to finish the film and thus do not feel it's fair to rate it, or I thought it sucked so badly that it wasn't even worth one popcorn man (such as the movie above, which would be my first review using my new format).

I will then review the movie, attempting to avoid any spoilers. After that, I will have a final verdict which is basically a "should you watch it, or not" type statement. So keep in mind that I may rate a movie only 1 popcorn man out of 5, but I may say that if you like a very specific thing to give the movie a try. You may find some entertainment value if you're bored and are a fan of specific things. So the popcorn men aren't saying to see it or not, they're just giving an idea of how the movie is as a whole.
