    Just watched Drive Angry.

Pretty ****ty, but it had a few nice cars and decent action.

The best part of the movie though was watching Amber Heard.

I saw 'Take Me Home Tonight' last night for the first time and really enjoyed. It is Topher Grace's baby (he wrote, produced and starred in it) and it was a great little indy comedy. Lots of great little cameo's from a bunch of recognisable actors and a pretty decent story. Highly recommended 8/10 from me.

Ape fever is spreading. Rise Of the Planet Of The Apes is really a great movie. Like I said in another thread I have to go back and rewatch it after my local theater had a flood with 30 minutes left. They gave everyone a free admission and popcorn voucher so I'll go back sometime next week once everything is cleaned up.

Watched The Knockaround Guys on Netflix. Starring Barry Pepper, Vin Deisel, and Seth Green. Pretty good flick.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

I just watched a movie I recorded on my PVR called The Sheepman (1958) starring Glenn Ford, Shirley MacLaine and Leslie Nielsen. It's a bit of an odd duck of a western and was probably one of the first of the real comedic westerns which gained in popularity in the early '60s. Here's the summary:

A stranger in a Western cattle-town behaves with remarkable self-assurance, establishing himself as a man to be reckoned with. The reason appears with his stock: a herd of sheep, which he intends to graze on the range. The horrified inhabitants decide to run him out at all costs.
It's a bit more than that as Jason Sweet (Ford) goes into town and really acts like a total jackass in order to settle himself into the community because he's a sheepherder going into a cattle town. Along the way he meets and flirts/befriends Dell Payton (MacLaine) The whole sheepherding thing is a ruse to get to the gang that killed his wife to be 7 years ago. The "colonel" who runs the town played by Leslie Nielsen was the brains behind the gang and so Ford tries to extract revenge while Nielsen tries everything in his power to get Ford out of town.

I think that's sufficient background, like I said this is a bit of a strange duck in that the first 3rd of the movie is really hokey comedy and goes for laughs but as the movie progresses it slowly but surely becomes more serious and the shootout between Ford and the gang leader is quite tense. (more tense and better than the actual final confrontation with Nielsen actually) Ford comes off as an ***, a charmer and a calm and collected tough guy almost all at once in some scenes.

Shirley MacLaine doesn't have much to do but her accent for the role really rubbed me the wrong way. It was really broad and more of a schticky kind of accent. As for Neilsen he was pretty good in his scenes though he didn't do too much. It's always interesting to see him before he became famous for the slapstick stuff.

Overall, while this isn't a great western it has its moments and Ford is the real star of the show. The emotional tempo is a bit uneven and the comedy aspects linger into the middle act it at least ends strongly.

                Unstoppable.

It was decent. Nothing more, nothing less, really. You can only do so much with a movie about two guys trying to stop a train. Denzel was solid as usual, and the other guy, Chris Pine or whatever, was pretty good as well.

All in all it's not a bad movie, but I wouldn't watch it more than once if I had to.

You like the older films, I've noticed.

Yet, from what I remember, you are pretty young, no?

Nothing wrong with that. Just not every day you see a young person enjoy older films or even want to watch them. I keep meaning to go back and start at the beginning, but I have so much catching up to do anyway, I've focused on the films released in the last 20 or so years.

Someday, I feel like my goal is to start from the early days of Hollywood cinema and move forward.

The earliest film I have is Nosferatu, but I have yet to watch it. I do dig on some of the older, more well known classics like the old Universal monster films (Dracula is still my favorite vampire film) and Wizard of Oz and I'm highly anticipating the Citizen Kane blu-ray release next month.

Not all that young i'm turning 32 at the end of the month. When I was a kid I never liked older movies but sometime in my teens I started getting into it and when TCM finally came to Canada I ordered the channel on my cable package ASAP. I do watch current movies every now and again but don't write about them here unless there's something of real note to them IMO.

Citizen Kane is going to be a Day One buy for me. Still one of my all-time favorites. I took several film classes at FSU, so I picked up an appreciation for the older movies at a young age. I'm a huge Noir fan and I have almost all of Hitchcock's work.

I need to hit up Amazon or something to find Double Indemnity. That movie is great and I would feel comfortable putting it in my Top-10.

Spinning this back on-topic, I saw Battle: Los Angeles the other night. It was OK if you are willing to overlook the holes in the story.

I have Nosferatu on my queue as well. Haven't watched it yet, but intend to. I've never seen Citizen Kane. I know, enter the film buff who wonders how a film student never saw Citizen Kane. I know...Like I've said, I have a lot of catching up to do.

I wish more Hitchcock movies were on blu-ray, but I'll take what I can get. From the ones I've seen, Rear Window is my favorite.

Since you're into noir, Kubrick's The Killing is coming out on blu-ray this week.

Have you seen North by Northwest on Blu? It's a beautiful restoration. I'm dying for them to restore more Hitchcock. Rear Window is my favorite, but I love Psycho, The Birds, Strangers on a Train, Dial M for Murder, Vertigo and North by Northwest. I love anything Cary Grant or Jimmy Stewart. Oh, and I'm only 19, but I grew up watching old movies with my parents. My kids will grow up the same way.

On a new movie note, I saw Rise of the Planet of the Apes last night and 30 Minutes or Less this morning. Planet of the Apes was good, but definitely fit the mold of a summer movie IMO. 30 Minutes or Less was enjoyable but a funny movie nonetheless.
