Re: What movies have you seen recently?

I was in an animated mood so I saw Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs Evil. I had enjoyed the first film quite a bit as it was a very clever way of turning the tables on fairy tales and turning into a crime caper. This time around they re-jigged the formula a little more with Red Riding Hood off in a mysterious land training with the Sister Hood in the art of Kung Fu Cooking while bad things are afoot closer to home as the Wolf, Granny and Twitchy are called on a case of Hansel and Gretel. Things go pear shaped as the kids and Granny end up kidnapped by a witch.....

So yeah the plot seems pretty good but it just isn't as inspired as the first film. The first half of the movie is pretty good with some funny moments but it starts to become extremely formulaic at the end. A lot of characters from the first movie make at least a cameo though the goat running around and singing then getting "killed" had absolutely nothing to do with anything. I'm sure the movie would be far more entertaining to the kiddies but as far as being meta-textual for the adults, it's nowhere near as deep as the first movie.

2 stars (mostly for the kiddies)

Watched Paranormal Activity and Frozen today....both were good, not great. Freaky and intense, which is what we were looking for, so they were good fits for my sister's boyfriend and I today.

Finally watched How To Train A Dragon.

Great film. Definitely understand why some felt it was better than Toy Story 3.

I wanted to watch Frozen but know how it ended cause of Hachet II which decided to display the ending (or at least ending give away) on one of the TVs.

It was actually pretty intense. I had no idea what was going to happen the entire time so it was a pretty fun watch. No need for a 2nd viewing, though.

Watched Grace is Gone with John Cusack was a sad story about losing someone close to you and how you deal with it. It's a slower moving movie but it was enjoyable and well acted.

                    Watched a few movies today...

Hanna- Seemed alright I suppose but struggled to keep my attention so I guess in the end it wasnt that good. I went in thinking there would be more action for some reason and there wasnt nearly as much as I had expected.

Your Highness- Other then a few funny one liners this movie was terrible and wont ever watch it again.

Scream 4- Another terrible movie, story was awful and made little sense in the end, another movie I wont ever watch again.

                      I know.

I only considered watching it because you and Tendrils kept recommending it. I honestly thought the movie was going to be your typical cheesy Dreamworks film.

                      Thank you for OS.

And after being disappointed with the Blu-ray look of Sucker Punch, I was incredibly impressed with the Blu-ray transfer on How To Train...Just stunning.

I easily put HTTYD in the same league as the Pixar movies. Dreamworks definitely stepped their game up.

Watched O Brother Where Art Thou for the umpteenth time. Can't watch it enough. Not a wasted scene in the whole movie. And of course, that song....

Planes, Trains and Automobiles. Still can't not cry at the ending. It's sad we didn't see John Candy get a chance at some more dramatic roles too. His short rebuttal in the motel scene is classic.

I watched Bounty Hunter a couple days ago. Pretty mediocre movie. I didn't find it funny or entertaining, I guess the only good thing I can say about it is Jennifer Aniston.

Watched Rocky I-V this past week, and will be watching Rocky Balboa next.

Rocky V was just sad to watch. There were some good parts to the story, but the bad was really bad and took away from what good there was in the film. Rocky II has grown on me, although the Adrian coma stuff does go on for a bit too long. The first 40 minutes are really good, IMO.

Rocky IV is pure 80's cheese, but I still love it. Rocky III also is full of cheese, but also still very fun to watch. Rocky is what started it all and I love the buildup to the fight.
