Scott Pilgrim - I loved it. It was like a music video, video game, and comic book rolled into a film. Amazing.

          The Enforcer (1951)

This is a pretty good movie starring Humphrey Bogart. Bogie doesn't do too much in it despite his top billing but he was used as the hook to get people to see the movie i'm sure. Here's the plot summary:

After years of pursuit, Assistant D.A. Martin Ferguson has a good case against Murder, Inc. boss Albert Mendoza. Mendoza is in jail and his lieutenant Joseph Rico is going to testify. But Rico falls to his death and Ferguson must work through the night going over everything to build the case anew.
Bogart plays Ferguson in a pretty standard fashion with no real spark. That's not to say that Bogart was uninteresting in his role it just didn't call for much and even at cruise control Bogart commands attention. The story is told through flashback as Ferguson and the cops piece together the murders and try to find a witness which turned out to be Rico. In doing so they found the clue that would put Mendoza to the chair.

The movie is populated with the Italian ethnic style of acting that would be prevalent in movies of these types for at least 15-20 years. The movie even features a young Zero Mostel who ends up giving the authorities some vital information so that they could get closer to cracking the case but the big fish out of them all and the one who would've been the witness was Rico and he was played with all the right notes by Ted De Corsia.

The whole flashback as a means to solve a mystery/come to the conclusion of the film is an old tactic but it worked well here. There are a couple noteworthy things though. This was in a time before the whole lexicon of hitmen tactics was new to the public and the film clumsily makes it seem like a new phenomenon even to the cops and we'd get scenes where the concept of the "contract" and the "hit" had to be explained. It wasn't a bad thing per se but it does show how much has changed in 60 years.

The other noteworthy thing was this film was slated to be directed by a guy by the name of Bretaigne Windust. This movie was to be his big break but unfortunately for him he got seriously ill early on in filming and Bogart had to ask his old friend Raoul Walsh to direct the movie. Walsh didn't take credit as he didn't want to get in the way of Windust's big break but I guess The Powers That Be knew exactly what was going on and Windust never got such a big opportunity again.

Anyways I give this a solid 3 out of 5 stars.

Clash of the Titans (2010). I don't know why this movie was getting a bad rap some places. It was thoroughly entertaining and the effects were top notch. I went in knowing I was watching a fantasy movie and that's what I got!

Extract- I loved this movie and thought it was hilarious. I saw previews for it about a year ago but never got around to seeing it and I haven't heard anything about it. Very funny especially Ben Affleck's character. I laughed a ton in this movie.

Just saw "The Road." WOW. Very underrated movie. This is how post-apocalyptic films are supposed to be. It is at times appalling, horrifying, touching, depressing, and just downright scary. The story is hardly original, but that didn't take away from how well it was told, how well it was shot, and the stellar performance of Viggo Mortensen.

The pace of the movie is fairly slow but I hardly felt like any scene dragged on longer than it should have.

I thought the ending could have been better, but overall it was a phenomenal movie.

Yes this was a great movie. A lot of scenes had me on the edge of my seat. I didn't feel like it dragged at all. And like you said it is underrated, I never heard of it until I saw it at Redbox and it looked good.

Just watched The Fourth Kind last night for the first time. Pretty creepy if you believe in that type of stuff!!! Even though it has been accepted as being a fake it still was good.

I tend to believe that even though it was fake, there is stuff like that that exists and happens. Just my opinion of course!
Don't blame me for what those nitwits said...They don't speak for me!!!

I showed it to my friend two nights ago, only giving her the smallest details about six girl friends going cave diving and having to find their way out. This movie ended up freaking her out so much, she definitely needed me to protect her. Oooh it was a-Blzin' in the room that night!
