I never got the Tarantino vibe watching any of Guy Ritchie's films. Tarantino seems a lot more reverent to older grindhouse, exploitation films than Ritchie's strictly street smart style.

Many of you have recommended "Drive." I haven't really seen any explanation of what makes this a really good movie. Can somebody sell me on it?

I wish I could, but I fear I didn't like it enough, even on my second viewing.

If I were to try and sell it, I'd say it's a throwback mob/revenge film where Gosling's merciful silence is a standing presence for the entirety of the plot. His emotions are wreaked in an effortless "cool," and can simply be told by the chillingly raw substance of the world around him.

The action in the film is light, but bold. The soundtrack is hauntingly light given the sadistic tones, and each relationship with Gosling has its own style despite his monotonous nuances.

It's a shocker, to say the least.

Yeah I don't see much Tarantino in Guy Ritchie's movies. Let's take Snatch as an example the closest thing to Tarantino I can compare that to would be probably Resevoir Dogs and the tone and feel of both movies are completely different.

          So yeah....No real comparison IMO.

I'm talking mostly editing and visual style. But that's beside the point. I wasn't downplaying the film because of it. It just feels like a similar film.

And unfortunately, I didn't really like the film. I liked it. The Netflix 5 star rating isn't very robust.

You go from liked it to didn't like it. Doesn't give you much space to work with.

Not all 3's are created equal. Snatch is still a Tarantino copy cat even if it's entertaining.

Well... I guess any flick involving multiple characters and plot lines, one has to pay attention. And if you don't, it'll be hard to follow.

As far as these companies and ratings. Pssshaw.... I don't bother or pay attention, nor do I rate. Like you implied, it all comes down to taste.

                Ha okay. Fair enough.

I meant it as a warning for anyone that half asses watching a film. I know too many.

Pfffft....you should have seen the people at the screening of 'Inception' we attended. A good half the people were like 'whaaaaaa?' My wife, my then 16 yr old son, and myself were entranced by it, while many there thought it was crap because it was 'too hard to follow'.

I guess 'Memento' would have made their heads explode LOL.

It's been a couple years since I've seen a Guy Ritchie movie so I'm sure I would view them differently now. From what I can recall, Ritchie's films felt more flashy and glossy to me compared to Tarantino's subdued and film-grainy style. Of course, Inglorious Basterds was full of flash.

So you're saying Tarantino copied him?!!

It's a cool movie that a lot of people haven't seen. I think it's one of Lioatta's best movies and it's pretty intense throughout.

How about Suicide Kings? Have you seen that?

It's a guy movie. Cars and violence. It's as simple as that.
