Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Trainwreck
Fitting title!
Just kidding, but compared to others here I wasn't into it either from a comedy or story standpoint. Don't get me wrong, I laughed plenty and wanted to know how things would end up, but my investment wasn't quite there compared to any other Judd Apatow film, including This Is 40.
Thankfully, the two things that saved it to being a pretty okay film are the ending and the ending. By that, I mean the actual ending itself, and the fact that it ended when it did. Apatow has had trouble cutting his movies down under two hours, and if this one went over that mark it would have well overstayed its welcome.
I don't really have any feelings one way or the other for Amy Schumer or LeBron James in this film, but I really enjoyed Bill Hader's performance. He was really the only character who I was concerned with regarding a resolution, and that's just too bad because I really wanted to feel more for Amy, but given her on-screen character nothing was there (minus one important scene).
I would not recommend this to others if I was the only one talking about it, but obviously my opinion probably isn't the strongest one here. I thought Bridesmaids was better and even that film had very bad, awkward dragging moments and flat jokes. This one just didn't have enough going on. And it's interesting because the majority of the theatrical trailer doesn't show much beyond what you'll see in the first forty minutes of the film, yet you can almost watch that trailer and still say that you've gotten a good chunk of the film out of the way. Though as I said, the ending saves it. I almost think this plot would have worked better if it didn't have the wacky comedy also included, even though I probably enjoyed those bits the most.
Once again though, my opinion is not the majority opinion. Go ahead and see it, and probably like it more than I did.i tried not touching anything when i was younger and ended up pissing all over myself.Comment

Danny Collins Quite a good ensemble cast and some great interplay between the characters. I struggle to watch present day Pacino, but he was very good in this. Fit the role pretty well. Definitely a date/married movie as well.Comment

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
Foxcatcher - An extremely awkward movie. It was slow at times, but it kept me interested overall. I vaguely remember some of the events and went back and researched after watching. After reading about it I think they missed the mark on some stuff involving the end, but I suppose they did it for dramatic effect. The performances of the three of the main actors were great and they made the movie, in my opinion.
This Is Where I Leave You - I don't know what it is about these types of movies... Maybe it's that I'm getting older or have been living away from home for too long, but I'm a sucker for them these days. I'm a huge fan of the cast and thought they all did a nice job. The story itself was a little better than average, but it sucked me in with a nice mix of comedy and heart. I definitely watch again.
The Drop - As a huge fan of both Hardy and Gandolfini I have to say that this was a disappointment. I don't think that it was a bad movie per se.... it just wasn't as good as I was expecting it to be.

Paper Towns
It's fine. Not great, but fine. I kinda hated Margo so the whole point of the movie, to find Margo, was kind of tainted for me. I didn't think she was worth finding. But it's a decent movie.
I think it's more interesting as a manic pixie dream girl deconstruction than it is as a movie.
Pre-movie I was really annoyed by the author of the book's overly cheerful attitude when he's thanking EVERYBODY. I was thinking "shutup already".Comment

Watched Captain Phillips today. Excellent movie. Tom Hanks is my favorite actor by far. He was excellent as always. I would probably watch Tom Hanks paint a fence. Haha.Comment

Just finally got around to watching Interstellar
Really, really, really enjoyed it. I'm a bit of a Nolan fanboy, admittedly, but this is my favorite Nolan movie and that is saying a lot, for me at least.
I loved it a lot, like I watched it again right after, fell asleep as it was going a third time, about to put it on again type of deal."Successful people do not celebrate in the adversity or misfortune of others."

Re: What movies have you seen recently?
I love Interstellar, but I don't know if I'd put it in my top 3 favorite Nolan films. That's a testament to how great a film maker he is though. My top 5 would probably go:
The Dark Knight
Memento
The Prestige
Inception
InterstellarGT: assassinK24Comment
