My wife dragged me to see Get Out last night, full disclosure that those kinda movies aren't my cup of tea. Most are silly, without substance, full of idiotic characters and not much more than cheap thrills via camera and sound tricks.

The movie was good but it's being really overhyped IMO.

First, it certainly wasn't a horror movie and I didn't find it all that suspenseful. On a scale of ten, I'd put the suspense level at a five. I kept waiting for business to really pick up but it never happened. My wife and her friend, who are both huge scaredy cats, said they weren't on-edge for most of the movie.

Outside of the last 15 minutes it was relatively mundane in terms of suspense and tension. Even towards the end, at it's peak, it wasn't overly suspenseful. Chris made quick work of escaping (that scene was bad *** and I respect that it was pretty realistic outside of the brother recovering. It was nice not to see the cliched "it's impossible to escape!" nonsense) leading up to the final scene after the car crashes into the tree. Most of the suspense movie cliches that were included didn't do much for me - them hitting the deer on the drive up, the strange interactions with the two black workers, etc. Things were weird but they weren't that suspenseful or scary.

The plot was so telegraphed that it must have been intentional. Granted the missing black folks weren't hypnotized or sex slaves like Rod said (and everyone in the audience guessed) about halfway through, it was really close to what was happening. It was like the most minor of red herrings. You still had a really good clue as to what was going on.

The social/racial stuff that I'd read about being subtle instead seemed like it was laid on quite thickly and bordering on being overblown. The interactions were more cringey than scary outside of the brother at the dinner table early on.

It was well-acted, I like that the protagonist wasn't a complete idiot. The scene with the antlers/deer head at the end had me cracking up for like 30 seconds.

The twist at the end was really well done, I thought for sure it was the cop from the beginning and he'd kill Chris on-sight after taking in the situation. The reveal of the two house servants "being" the grandparents was also neat but it's not like my mind was blown. You know something was going on there and were ready for the final piece of the puzzle.

Rod was funny and entertaining. I also think that backfired a bit because it really eased any tension in the audience, it was almost too funny for the tone of the movie. I think Peele could make a really great dark comedy though, something along the lines for American Pyscho.

I'd give it a 7/10. It was good but nothing I was blown away by.

Saw The Magnificent 7 reboot again. Rewatch value for sure. A bit choppy editing in parts. Opening skirmish is tremendous.

I agree re: your spoiler but I've read a lot of people who viewed them as scary or suspenseful or that it gave them anxiety. Personally, I did not get that vibe.

Thought this was very well done. X-23 was awesome and I just really liked the take on an older Wolverine. Definitely recommend for any who love the character. One of the best comic movies I've seen.

Watched with my kids. Pretty solid. They loved it. Was surprised to realize the actors voicing the character were actually singing. Pretty cool. If you have kids I'd think it's a must see.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Being a huge HP fan I was a little worried about how this was going to work out. But I wasn't disappointed. Thought it was very good and am looking forward to this new series. Looking at the time frame of when this is set it should conclude with an epic battle between Dumbledore and Grindelwald. Can't wait for that. If you're a HP fan this shouldn't disappoint.

Just watched Hands of Stone.

I didn't know much about Roberto Duran's story other than the Sugar Ray fights. I also know very little about Panama, in general.

I won't get too in depth but I liked it. I liked it more than Bleed For This and Southpaw. Not as much as Creed.

I agree re: your spoiler but I've read a lot of people who viewed them as scary or suspenseful or that it gave them anxiety. Personally, I did not get that vibe.

It was a good movie, but I'm more with you here. However, I still wish Armond White would get his head out of his *** with how pretentiously he wrote his "negative review" for the film. Some of his complaints are even factual inaccuracies. Would have been cool to see it land a 100% on RT if it wasn't for that guy.

I watched Contact again yesterday. Probably like the 7th time I've watched it in my life.

It really captivated my imagination as a kid and holds a soft spot in my heart. I know some critics smashed it and the ending bugs some people but something about it just has always appealed to me

Saw Beauty and the Beast last night. Absolutely incredible start to finish. It's one of my favorite Disney animated films ever to begin with but they nailed this. Emma Watson, Dan Stevens and Luke Evans were all amazing in their roles. Such a great film start to finish. Soundtrack is outstanding as well.

Saw Beauty and the Beast last night. Absolutely incredible start to finish. It's one of my favorite Disney animated films ever to begin with but they nailed this. Emma Watson, Dan Stevens and Luke Evans were all amazing in their roles. Such a great film start to finish. Soundtrack is outstanding as well.

Saw this last night as well and agreed, really enjoyed it. Don't think I've ever seen the animated one from start to finish, but thought this one was great. I'll have to make a point to actually watch the animated one soon.

Absolutely one of my favorite films, and I love the ending. I think no doubt is left about her actual experience (the camera), and I love that at the end of everything she's still a scientist, but more spiritual (at least a touch). And I lose it everytime at the very end with those delicate piano notes and 'For Carl' comes up. Sagan was quite a guy.

Yeah, I agree 100 percent.

The ending was tactful and meaingful, somewhat sybolic of Ellie's story and character itself.

I think the thing that irked some people

is that had they just made it known about the camera she would have been vindicated and not shamed in front of the council. 18 hours came from 1 second, or whatever it was, that's undeniable scientific proof

but honestly that is what kind of makes the whole thing work as it isn't a stock hollywood ending
