The Shining is hands down one of the most overrated movies of all time. If Nicholson's performance hadn't been alright (although not as good as the source material), I would've never finished it.

Same goes for McAvoy in Split.

Oh, I know I am. It's not news to me that most people think that pile of garbage is such a great movie. Stephen King and I will be the only two that hate it.

Make that three (me). I saw it once and don't remember much other than the famous "Here's Johnny!" line.

Interestingly enough Wikipedia has the movie's Reception section divided into Initial Reviews, Reappraisal, and Analysis of change in perception. It actually opened to mixed reviews.

Office Christmas Party -- Mary and her farts were epic. Movie was pretty funny at times. Could have been better with more background on the company. I'll give it a solid 5/10.

Saw Going In Style today. We enjoyed it-Freeman, Caine and Arkin are great, and the film is heartwarming and many times funny. Very pleasant movie.

Looks like this would be a good update/remake without discrediting the original. Saw trailer recently and would like to see it soon.

I'm with you Beantown, so that will be 4 on the list. I absolutely loved the book and so wish that a reboot of this movie or limited series that could be made that aligns more closely with it.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

Currently watching Shut In (2016) starring Naomi Watts. I'm about 45 minutes in. Not great, but oh well, I'll get my money's worth by watching it through.

Only thing, either this is incredible coincidence, or... am I watching a U.S. remake of The Orphanage? If so, I think I already know its ending haha.

                        EDIT: Finished.

Okay, so not too much later it took an unexpected turn. I wouldn't call it a remake/retelling of The Orphanage, but it's definitely a play on parts of that film (if you've seen it, you'd know why I thought it was unfolding like it).

The last half of Shut In has some legitimate intensities, but it becomes a little one-note. Not very good overall, but Naomi Watts is one hell of an actress and she owns every scene she is in, and made it that much better to watch as a result. Another movie that it reminded me of (not because of story, just "genre") is Hide & Seek with Robert De Niro and Dakota Fanning. I prefer H&S over this, but being a fan of one you just may be a fan of the other.

Though since I brought it up, if you haven't seen The Orphanage (understand that it is in Spanish with English subtitles), I recommend you check that one out instantly. Unfortunately, it is no longer available to stream on Netflix.

The Space Between Us Started out well enough. I mean when you see Gary Oldman you pretty much think this is gonna be at least a decent movie despite anything else going on. This one really went off the tracks. Not even Oldman could save it. Britt Robertson is cute and young looking and all that, but she needs to stop playing high school girls at age 27. She easily can pass for someone in her early 20's, but to see her with a kid who looked 15, it was even a bit creepy. If you decide to see this, which I recommend you don't waste your time, you'll notice how this just becomes a mess and is all over the place. This just seemed really thrown together like a jigsaw puzzle where you force the pieces in place. Oldman really wasn't that good, but considering the screenplay, he should probably get a pass like everyone else. It was nice having Carla Gugino.....quite the hottie.

Gifted is a great showcase for 10 year old Mckenna Grace, but the script is pretty mediocre. Chris Evans and Octavia Spencer round out a good cast and the chemistry between uncle turned father (Evans) and the little star is there. Jenny Slate is great as Mckenna's teacher, a completely different role then I'm used to seeing her in.

Jenny Slate as Mona-Lisa Saperstein in Parks And Recreation.

Watched the Shawshank Redemption and Dead Poets society. Loved them both.

Dead Poets society was my favorite of the two though. I'm a bit of rebel when it comes to blindly following tradition because some old guy says so. That movie was great at sticking it to tradition and the fun that comes about when you do.

Saw the latest Fast and The Furious, The fate of the furious. I enjoyed the movie as it was a great break from reality. Had some cheesy lines in it but they did a good job of keeping me interested. Lots of laughs as well. I'd recommend it as a mood lifter for sure. If you're looking for realism tho you're going to be disappointed
