The Smurfs 7.0 pretty terrible movie actually, but then again it was probably very hard to translate the cartoon into a modern film. The special effects were alright and the core story was ok; nothing really special

Watched this on Netflix last night and it was pretty funny. Of course, I like anything with Dan Fogler so that was a big reason. Topher was playing a 22 year old version of Forman with a potty mouth. It was very interesting. Not a great story, but the comedy kept my attention long enough to get through it.
Saw this about a week ago as well. Fogler really made the comedy parts imo, but I did enjoy the main story between Topher and that chick. Decent movie I thought.

I was starting to watch this 80's movie called Stand and Deliver, but I stopped pretty short of it when I got called in. I'll finish it later.

I've been short on seeing new movies lately. Nothing out in theaters I want to see until Ghost Protocol.

Re: What movies have you seen recently?

My friend who reviews movies and I went and saw a press screening of the new silent, black and white movie, The Artist. It was absolutely fantastic. I wondered if it being silent would really be a problem, but I was sucked in from the beginning. It has a lot of melodramatic moments, meant to mirror the old silent film style, but they didn't take away from the brilliance in the least. The acting job done by Jean Dujardin in the lead role was fantastic. It was amazing how well he played the role, all while not saying anything.

The story is about an old silent film star who has to deal with rejection because of the new movies that were coming out with sound. The movie basically follows his struggle. I can say that I absolutely did not miss dialogue in the least. The orchestra score captured emotion as well as any dialogue could have.

I'd give it a solid 9/10 and easily one of the best films of the year for me. I think it has a shot at an Oscar nomination for best picture, but I really hope that Jean Dujardin gets a nomination for best actor.

Fantastic documentary and beautifully illustrates that no matter how popular online news sites become, they still get their content from reporters who are in the thick of it. Highly recommended.

The Lady Vanishes - A 1938 Alfred Hitchcock...thriller? Comedy? Drama? The movie doesn't really get going until the cast boards the train, but I found it very compelling how quickly and how well Hitchcock moved this film between genres. It is at times genuinely slapstick and hilarious (the "fight" with the magician for example), while other times it manages to be creepy and thrilling. While maybe not up to par with the likes of his later works, this is a fun film to watch.

I watched this the other day and as a former newspaper guy, I really enjoyed it. The bit where Carr was on a panel with some Internet sites and he showed the piece of paper with the online site and all the places it got its news from. Then he showed what the site would look like if, as the online guy suggested, newspapers went away, and the sheet of paper had a bunch of holes cut through it. What a brilliant, tangible example of why traditional media outlets are still needed.

Loved it. Visuals would hold their own with Pixar and Dreamworks. The little girl reminded me a lot of "Boo" from Monsters Inc.

I'm having them recorded so I can have a good 4 hour session (or however long the run time really is). I didn't know if this was considered a movie or a TV special, but I'm expecting it to be pretty good nonetheless.

Friday Night Lights. (again). Sorry, but Remember The Titans can't hold a candle. Tremendous cinematography, let alone the story line (yes, I know it's not exactly how it happened).

I felt terribly misled on this one. This is also one of those times if you've seen all the trailers you've seen the movie. Though that's where the mislead is because you think there's more but no. It was ok I guess.
                                Spoiler

If you did see it in the theatre and enjoyed it don't hesitate to pick up the blu-ray,very nice sound and video quality.

                                Kung Fu Panda 2

Loved it. Some neat fights and thought it was funnier than the original. The ending battle also better. However didn't find the core story to be as good. Also a very good blu-ray but that was expected.
